Paul IV and Cherry Hill East met the week before in a regular season make-up game and played 110 minutes without a score for either team. This day they played through 103 minutes of soccer before determining a winner, and it wasn't very satisfying even for the winners. The game was decided on a rare overtime penalty kick. With minutes left in the first overtime, the official ruled that Adrienne Dugandzic from Paul IV had been fouled inside the offensive box. That gave Dugandzic an opportunity to shoot unopposed from about 15 yards out, an opportunity that heavily favors the shooter.

The Paul VI Lady Eagle's came into this game with a very impressive 14-0-1 record. Cherry Hill East's 9-3-1, while not shabby certainly made them the underdogs. Brian Sheehan, the coach of the Eagles, expected a good game against a "quality" team. But he expected to win. The Eagles were playing without Jill McKeever (injury) and the Cougars were playing without Meredith Sobel. This game was a makeup game for a regular season game that was cancelled due to weather. The teams meet again on Friday (November 5). The teams played through 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes (2 - 10 minute) of overtime without scoring, but not without excitement.

Rudy Kolbach's eleventh seeded Delran Bears (11-4) were hoping to upset Viktor Dombrovsky's sixth seeded Cherry Hill East Cougars (9-3-1) in the Coaches Tournament, and for a while it looked as though they might. Cherry Hill started off fairly strong. Sixteen minutes into the game Rachael Sterling fed a near perfect pass to Amanda, the younger Kravitz, who beat Betsy Kennedy the Delran keeper to take a one to nothing lead. Delran then turned up the heat and the rest of the first half was fairly even. Cherry Hill led in shots 6-3 for the half.

The Bishop Eustace girls came into today's match up with 7 wins 3 losses and 2 ties. The Cougars had only one loss and one tie in their first ten games and thus were considered the favorites. But Cherry Hill's defense cracked just a little and the Crusaders' defense never did. Elissa Harrison, Eustace's keeper, looked very strong the entire game despite being tested several times by the Cougars' offense. And Carolyn Snyder was beaten only once by a direct kick for the only score of the game.

The Lady Cougars (7-1-1) had a surprising loss to Triton on Tuesday and were anxious to face the much higher rated (8-3-0) Renegades. It was expected to be a very close match and it was. Neither Cherry Hill's Emily Brenner nor Shawnee's Tricia Irwin saw many shots, but the shots that did get in were tough hard saves. Marrisa Kravitz put in the one shot that did get by Irwin, with a one timer that came from a one timer from Nicole Thurston that came from a one timer from Daniel DiBruno. Not much of a chance for any goal tender.

Jim Price knew it would be a tough game for his Mustangs. The Mustangs (2-6-1) were facing the Cougars (5-1-2). The game was more than lopsided, in the first half Triton didn't get a single shot in on Cherry Hill keeper Sean Dallas. On the other end of the field, keeper Brian Brooks faced thirty-seven shots in the game. To no one's surprise and through no fault on Brook's, six of them counted.

Cherry Hill East girls easily handled Edgewood 5-1, but the better story was the 27 saves that Denise Prosser and Jennifer Clay made as the Cougars put 32 shots on the Edgewood net, most of them tough ones. At the other end Carolyn Snyder, who played the first half for Cherry Hill, didn't see the ball at all and Emily Brenner who played the second half with most of East's starters out, faced only five shots.

Things are looking up for the Overbrook Boys Soccer team this year. After a tough season last year the Rams could only improve upon their 3-13-2 record. Marissa Kravitz put in three unanswered goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and Cherry Hill East never looked back. Jen Padlo, the rock of the Cougars defense, was outstanding. Padlo's defense allowed only one shot on goal in the first half and she got a foot on that one just too late. A poor offense can make a defense look good, but today a great defense made a good offense look bad. Coach Murray's Lions played reasonably well and keeper Amanda Lomberg had only one very soft goal.

It was a hard fought game between two teams that are not used to losing. The 5-1 Cherokee girls were anxious to stop the 3-0 Cougars of Cherry Hill East. Both teams had to fight their way out of the box over and over. The offenses simply ran into very capable defenses.

The South Jersey Barons lost in the National Championship Game at Ludlow, Massachusetts 2-1 before a more than capacity crowd. After a very tight first half that ended with no score, the Western Massachusetts Pioneers opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Paul Wright, who put away a rebound off a Barons defender. Rob Jachym got the second goal when he beat a Barons defender then slipped by Paul Royal who was coming out to challenge him. Matt Brooks slammed home a pass from Eric Chijoke to make it 2-1 with eight minutes left in the game, but it was too late. The Chico Rooks of California beat the California Jaguars of Salinas, CA 1-0 to give Chico a four point lead (71) over the South Jersey Barons (67) in overall D-3 Pro League standings. Since there are three divisions in the D-3, the playoff structure has the top four teams from each division in playoff against each other, and the winners of the divisional playoff join with the team with the highest league point total to make up the final four. In order to overcome Chico's four-point lead, the Barons needed the four points from a win and the bonus point that comes with scoring three or more goals in a game or shootout.
