By Forrest Robleto Viktor Dombrowsky's Cherry Hill East Girls were 1-0 with a 2-1 win over Pennsauken and Tony Procopio's Washington Township Girls were 1-0 with a 2-1 win over Bishop Eustace. They looked like evenly matched opponents, but the game wasn't even as close as the 4-0 score as the only time Washington Township was really in the game was at the end when, with the score at 4-0, Cherry Hill substituted nearly their entire bench into the game. At the ten-minute mark of the game, Cherry Hill's Laura Pursell fed Danielle DiBruno to open the scoring. Despite an obvious field position advantage for Cherry Hill, the score remained at 1-0 through the 65th minute of the game, when the freshman Christine Mullen fed Meridith Sobel who made the goal look easy for a 2-1 lead. Ten minutes later, the Kravitz sisters got a goal (Marrisa from Amanda) then repeated three minutes later (again Marrisa from Amanda) to make the score 4-0. Dombrowsky gave the bench an opportunity and Washington Township suddenly found a lot of opportunity for offense. Cherry Hill's defense, which hadn't been severely tested, found themselves with a lot of work. Cherry Hill's sophomore keeper, who came in for Senior Carolyn Snyder near the end of the first half, made several saves including one spectacular save involving her head, her hands, and diving to her left the tips of her fingers. Cherry Hill plays next at Camden Catholic, Wednesday at 3:45 PM. Photos by Forrest Robleto
