South Jersey Soccer: Sunday, September 12, 1999
By Ernie Tyler On Sunday, the Palmyra-Riverton U-10 soccer team opened its season with a hard fought 3-2 loss to Berlin Boro. The game was close the whole time with Pal-Riv pressuring furiously at the end to try and tie it. In the first half, Pal-Riv got off to a 1-0 lead on a 20-yard direct kick goal by K. Mack. K. Mack didn't waste any time. When the Ref said go, he kicked it, sending the ball over the Berlin Boro goalie's hands into the back of the net. Berlin quickly tied it a few minutes later. Pal-Riv had a goal disallowed because of off-sides. Right before the half, Berlin Boro took a 2-1 led. In the second half, Berlin scored early, but Pal-Riv kept the pressure on and P. Villari scored to make it 3-2 Berlin Boro. Pal-Riv had several chances late, including a couple of breakaways but couldn't score. Pal-Riv will face Pinelands at home, Sunday the 19th at 2 PM.
