High School Soccer: Friday, September 24, 1999
By Stephanie Conn On Friday, the Rams of Overbrook and the Cougars of Cherry Hill East faced off in an Olympic Conference soccer game at Overbrook High School. The Cougars came out with a goal by #1 Kravitz, but the Rams refused to put their heads down. The first half ended with the score 1 to nothing Cougars. At half time both teams looked tired but neither team was going to give up. Overbrook was determined to come back and East knew they could come back. In the physical second half, the score was still 1-0 until the Cougars #25 DiBruno scored to make it 2-0. Overbrook kept playing hard as #12 Morgan Gantt scored on a nice play from the left wing. This put Overbrook back in the game with the score East 2 - Overbrook 1. East stepped up a notch but so did Overbrook. Overbrook tried very hard to get that second goal. Jaimie Dougherty had a beautiful direct kick but missed the net by a few inches. Overbrook tried and tried but they never scored the tying goal. Overbrook lost 2-1 in a heartbreaking game, but the Lady Rams tried their best and stayed in the game. This wasn't just a one-person game; it was a team game. All of Overbrook girls played a great game, but it wouldn't have been such a close game if it wasn't for Keeper Katie McGee. McGee made some awesome saves, with a total of 18, and a couple at the end to keep it close. Also, the coach, Coach Deiz, gave us the encouragement we needed to finish the game.
