The Cherry Hill East team only let in ten goals the entire season. Unfortunately they let in five of them in the last two games. The Bridgewater-Raritan boys undaunted by a 1-0 Cherry Hill lead, tied the game in regulation and put in the final goal of the game in with only minutes remaining in the final overtime. It was a sad finish on a fine season for the Cougars and sent the Panthers to the State finals.

Cherry Hill East and Rancocas Valley played 100 minutes of scoreless soccer before being decided by penalty kicks, five to three in favorite of Cherry Hill East. The Cougar fans who have complained about the lack of coverage for their team hoped that this would give them some respect. One father joked that the headline would probably be "Rancocas Valley makes finals." The Cougars outshot Rancocas Valley 12-4 and keeper Dan DiBruno never looked really tested.

There was a lot of action going on at Moorestown High School where the boy's soccer team was competing in the South Jersey Group 2 Finals. The Lady Quakers had earlier won the field hockey championship game against Hammonton 2-1. Now, the boys could cap the day off with Moorestown's second championship, this time against Haddon Heights. The Quakers were defending champions and were going for their second consecutive Group 2 title. It was a good day for Moorestown as they would add soccer to their records for capturing the Group 2 title with a 2-0 victory.

In the Group 4 Girls Soccer Championship game, the Lady Indians matched the Cherry Hill East Cougars' team almost evenly. The Cougars had 10 shots to Lenape's 8, but the Indians had the only shot that counted. Ten minutes into the game, Lenape's Katie Ludwig brought the ball in from the right side past two defenders and got a good shot off that cleanly beat keeper Carolyn Snyder. That goal proved to be the game winner.

The Vineland Hurricanes hit the road for Upper Twp. to meet the Raptors. The Hurricanes put together their biggest and best offensive performance of the Fall season. Vineland jumped on the Raptors early in the match. At the four minute mark, Vineland's Billy Redden launched his second cornerkick of the day at the Upper Twp. goal. The ball needled its way through most of the players to defender Evan Bostrom. Bostrom "bodied" the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Upper Twp. fought back to knot the game at 1-1.

By Jerry Amari The Vineland Hurricanes traveled to Lenape Regional High School to play the Mt. Laurel Jaguars. The match was the second time these teams had met this season. Although the Hurricanes won the first meeting (5-1), the Jaguars had upset on their minds as the rematch unfolded.
The Lenape field was quite breezy with a cross wind at game time. The Jaguars stayed composed against the initial Vineland attack at their goal. The Mt. Laurel counterattack gave the Jaguars a 1-0 lead at the 13 minute mark.

It was one of those games where two top notch teams go head to head. The Lady Cougars of Cherry Hill East battled the Lady Indians of Lenape to a scoreless first half. When the final seconds ticked off the clock, it was a 3-3 tie game.

Scott Hart scored the Triton goal with an assist to TJ Durham. Brandon Cohen scored Edgewood's goal with an assist to Chris Blackmore. Some of the fans (fans will be fans) said that the second goal for Triton was questionable. Nick Satieti, with a volley, scored the goal, assisted by Mario Sergi. After that goal, Edgewood's coach Ron Wence said that the team could not regroup and had trouble defending without Mike Muckley (sitting out for a red card against Highland).

The Fall schedule has the boys playing a rugged schedule with matches against two former Olympic clubs (Mt. Laurel and Medford). In early November we'll journey to Princeton to play the "Union". None of the teams on the schedule will be easy.

This was a game where the home team would have the edge with the support from their fans. At Cherokee High School, there weren't many people to watch Pennsauken and Cherokee participate in this Olympic conference boy's soccer match. The Chiefs had to provide their own fans and enthusiasm from the remaining players on the sidelines. Once the first goal was scored, Cherokee had an easy time and defeated Pennsauken 6-0 to remain undefeated.

It's here! The start of the 1998 High School fall sports. That's when students are excited about returning to school after that long summer break. Well, some of the students are excited. For Highland and Deptford, the season was under way for their girl's soccer teams. This non-league game was an important one to coaches Jim Smith (Highland) and Michelle Tims (Deptford). Early season victories can go a long way during the year. Both teams would have to settle for a 1-1 overtime decision.

This is where it all begins. The practice week! It involves the excitement of a new beginning. Ironing out the wrinkles in your game plan, meeting your new coach or just getting ready to continue where your team left off last season with that winning attitude. "The majority of the starters are juniors," Cherry Hill East coach Lee Troutman mentioned. "I think everybody was rather surprised by us last year. No one bothered to pay attention to [the team] we had or [the players] we had until it was too late." Coach Lee Troutman sees an interesting season ahead for a strong team in the Olympic American division.

Bill Epley is now at Division I, Bucknell in the Ivy League and hasn't missed a beat. Bill was second in total points this past fall. Bill's ability to perform at the next level has a lot to do with his incredible work ethic. This performance as a freshman nearly earned him Freshman of the Year in the Ivy League. He placed second to the player from Navy. Expect Bucknell in the next few years to make a run at the Ivy League crown. Bill has always been a winner and I expect it to be no different at Bucknell.

For most families, the Memorial Day weekend would be spent with relatives in their backyard or park. The barbecue grill would be filled with burgers, hot dogs and all their specialties.
