High School Field Hockey: Thursday, November 21, 2002 By Crystal Parker Ocean City and Moorestown played as hard as they could for as long as they could in their State 3 semi-finals game at Highland High School. After neither team could score in regulation or the overtime period, it was a shame that either team had to lose this defensive battle. Both of these teams had not lost a single game this season until today. Ocean City (22-0-1) keeper Gwen Hunter kept all three shot attempts from entering the cage by the Lady Quakers to preserve a 3-0 penalty shot victory. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, November 15, 2002 By Crystal Parker Eleven players including their goalkeeper from each team took the field this afternoon determined to play their best and capture the title. It would end with seven players per side as this evenly matched South Jersey Group 2 field hockey championship game went into overtime. The Lady Eagles' early lead looked as if West Deptford would earn another upset victory over a higher seeded team, but Camden Catholic ended all of their hopes on Liz Hutchinson game winning goal. The Lady Irish's come from behind 2-1 victory allowed them to celebrate their second straight title. |
High School Field Hockey: West Deptford Upsets Bishop Eustace to Advance to Finals Thursday, November 14, 2002 By Crystal Parker Rain has played a major role in this year's outdoor fall sports during the post season. Field conditions, scheduling conflicts and time restriction caused headaches for coaches and athletic directors through the area. Despite all of that, the Lady Eagles from West Deptford did not let the rain nor playing conditions stop them from traveling to Bishop Eustace and upsetting the number one seed. West Deptford will now visit third seeded Camden Catholic in the South Jersey Group 2 finals with their 2-1 win over Bishop Eustace. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, November 14, 2002 By Charlie Barker In a semifinal game of the Central Group 3 playoffs, the Lady Quakers of Moorestown shut out the Lady Lancers of Holy Cross 2-0 to advance to the next round. Even though Moorestown has one of the strongest offenses in South Jersey, this time it was their defense that made the difference in the contest. Moorestown's Beverly Wilson was the stingy netminder. |
High School Field Hockey: Ocean City's Quest to Repeat Stays Alive Friday, November 8, 2002 By Susan Hall Clearview traveled to Ocean City to take on the Red Raiders in a South Jersey Group 3 tournament field hockey action. Ocean City (19-0-1) has had a successful season this year as they have not loss a single game. The number one seeded Ocean City posted a 2-0 victory. Maggie Long would score the game winner in the first half to send the Red Raiders into the semi-finals against a very familiar opponent Central Regional. |
High School Field Hockey: Bishop Eustace Romps Haddonfield in Group 2 Playoff Action Thursday, November 7, 2002 By Susan Hall The Lady Crusaders advanced easily to the semifinals with their 6-goal performance against the 8th seeded Haddonfield field hockey team. The top seeded Bishop Eustace squad will now host the Lady Eagles from West Deptford in the South Jersey Group 2 tournament. This game was highlighted by Megan Foster's 3-goal performance as Eustace never let up on their quest of taking over this game from the start. |
High School Field Hockey: West Deptford Wins Competitive Playoff Contest Against Gateway Tuesday, November 5, 2002 By Susan Hall All it took was one goal to be the team to advance to the next round of the playoffs. The other team would have to hang up their cleats and sticks and call it a season. Neither team wanted their season to end as both the West Deptford Lady Eagles hosting the Gateway Lady Gators in the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 field hockey playoffs played hard to move on. Brittany Stewart's shot went into the cage giving the Eagles the win against a Gateway team who worked hard to send this competitive match into overtime. |
High School Field Hockey: Bishop Eustace Tops Triton Saturday, November 2, 2002 By Crystal Parker Bishop Eustace's Megan Baker was able to find a way past the Triton defense Saturday afternoon. The Lady Crusaders traveled to Runnemede New Jersey to participate in field hockey matchup against the Mustangs from Triton High School. Baker scored twice in this game while the Bishop Eustace defense kept Triton off the scoreboard and posted a 4-0 victory. |
High School Field Hockey: Woodstown Remain On Top By Defeating Gloucester Friday, November 1, 2002 By Crystal Parker It was a day that most wanted to stay at home and keep warm under your favorite blanket. All week long, Mother Nature has reminded us that winter was not too far away with wind chill temperatures holding around the freezing mark. Despite the conditions, the Woodstown Wolverines (14-4-1) traveled to Gloucester City to take on the Lady Lions in a battle between two of the top field hockey teams in the Tri-County Conference Classic Division. Woodstown's Jamie Toy scored the winning goal in their 3-1 victory to all but seal the division title. |
High School Field Hockey: Collingswood Duel With Haddon Heights Ends in a Draw Tuesday, October 22, 2002 By Susan Hall A classic demonstration of two excellent field hockey programs competing against one another took place in Haddon Heights this afternoon. Collingswood entered this duel with the Lady Garnets with a perfect record of 10-0-0 in the Colonial Conference Liberty Division. Not to be outdone, Haddon Heights were also having a successful season posting an 11-2-1 record in the Patriot Division. This clash between two titans ended in a draw as both teams pushed their skills to the limit trying to prove who is the better team on this day. |
High School Field Hockey: Hammonton Keeps Triton Scoreless Saturday, October 19, 2002 By Crystal Parker With just over two weeks remaining in the field hockey season, every game is crucial in establishing a position in the upcoming playoffs. In today's contest between the Hammonton Lady Blue Devils traveling to Triton High School to take on the Mustangs was a non-league game. Hammonton would take advantage of the opportunities the Triton defense gave them to win this game by the score of 5-0. Allison Greene scored two goals to lead Hammonton. |
High School Field Hockey: West Deptford Wins Battle at Home Against Haddon Heights Friday, September 27, 2002 By Crystal Parker Haddon Heights entered this game winning their first 6 games of the season and were sitting on top of the Colonial Conference Patriot Division in front of Haddon Township. Meanwhile, West Deptford representing the Liberty Division was in second place behind the undefeated Panthers from Collingswood. Today's interdivision game watched West Deptford (6-1-0, 2-1-0) take control of this game and defeat the Lady Garnets by a 5-1 margin. This was Haddon Heights' first loss of the season. |
High School Field Hockey: Pitman Shuts Out Audubon For First Win of Season Saturday, September 14, 2002 By Crystal Parker Right in the middle of the first weekend of high school sports, it was field hockey instead of football that was played Saturday afternoon at Audubon High School. Today's action matched up the Lady Panthers from Pitman going up against the Green Wave. Pitman was not very hospitable as they marched in and right out of Audubon with a shut out victory. Jaci Myers, Tina Weil and Danielle Soliai all scored for Pitman as they posted a three nothing shut out. |
