In a semifinal game of the Central Group 3 playoffs, the Lady Quakers of Moorestown shut out the Lady Lancers of Holy Cross 2-0 to advance to the next round. Even though Moorestown has one of the strongest offenses in South Jersey, this time it was their defense that made the difference in the contest. Moorestown's Beverly Wilson was the stingy netminder.
The Lady Quakers had beaten Holy Cross 3-1 early in the regular season. When you consider that Moorestown has been averaging over 5 goals a game, the Lady Lancers showed their skill in keeping Moorestown under that mark. The Moorestown defense has been extremely tough this season, producing 14 shut outs through 18 games. But this is just part of the Lady Quakers continuing their amazing winning ways, not having lost a game since being beaten by Shore Regional 1-0 in the 2000 Central Group 2 final.
The Lady Lancers did not allow Moorestown to score until Elizabeth Weber came through when the Lady Quakers got a penalty corner opportunity after nine minutes had gone by in the first half. Jessie Lacontora produced Moorestown's insurance goal.
Moorestown moves on to host Wall Twp. on November 19th for the Central Group 3 final.
