A classic demonstration of two excellent field hockey programs competing against one another took place in Haddon Heights this afternoon. Collingswood entered this duel with the Lady Garnets with a perfect record of 10-0-0 in the Colonial Conference Liberty Division. Not to be outdone, Haddon Heights were also having a successful season posting an 11-2-1 record in the Patriot Division. This clash between two titans ended in a draw as both teams pushed their skills to the limit trying to prove who is the better team on this day.
When a team is undefeated and you're the next opponent scheduled to play them, most of your day is spent thinking about how you could make a difference. Right before the game, anxiety sets in you are thinking how important it is to first play well and then to win. Well E.J. Roddy settled the Lady Panthers down when her goal at the 28:10 mark gave them the first score of the day. Jen Schelpat assisted on that goal. As expected, Haddon Heights fought back and tied this game when Shannon Casey's shot found the net.
In the second half, each team started again pressuring the defense looking for that opportunity to score. When Collingswood's Lindsay Bozarth put her team up 2-1 midway through the half, it looked as if the Lady Panthers would extend their unbeaten streak by one. But Haddon Heights would work their way into position and tie this game when Sam Papa evened this game at two apiece. The defense dominated the overtime period and both teams walked away from this game knowing they played well.
