Rain has played a major role in this year's outdoor fall sports during the post season. Field conditions, scheduling conflicts and time restriction caused headaches for coaches and athletic directors through the area. Despite all of that, the Lady Eagles from West Deptford did not let the rain nor playing conditions stop them from traveling to Bishop Eustace and upsetting the number one seed. West Deptford will now visit third seeded Camden Catholic in the South Jersey Group 2 finals with their 2-1 win over Bishop Eustace.
Goalkeeper Valerie Garigliano has come up big for West Deptford all season long recording save after save. Today's matchup wasn't any difference as the unbeaten Bishop Eustace squad was loaded with talented players such as Megan Foster, Lauren Kramer, Brittney Singer, Megan Baker and Kim Lynyak. West Deptford would counter with Brittany Gibbs, Brittany Stewart, Chelsea Cipriani, Allison Green and Tiffany Hunter.
Field hockey is definitely a team sport and played as a team, whether your name gets mentioned or not. The Lady Eagles efforts would pay off as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Gibbs and Cipriani. With 4:09 remaining in the half, Kramer cut the lead in half for Bishop Eustace on an assist from Foster. That's how this game would end as neither team scored in the exciting second half.
