High School Field Hockey: Saturday, November 15, 2003 By Crystal Parker The Irish from Camden Catholic has dominated the sport of field hockey for the past three years. Winning two straight sectional titles is something that the Irish has gotten use to and were looking to add a third. Well the fifth seeded Lady Eagles from West Deptford had other plans as they had knocked off the top seeded team on Thursday and looking for more. Overcoming an early deficit, West Deptford score the next three goals to hold on for a 3-2 victory claiming the South Jersey Group II title. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, November 13, 2003 By Susan Hall West Deptford’s quest for the title just got one step closer when they traveled to Collingswood to take on the number one seeded Lady Panthers. These two teams met twice during the regular season with Collingswood having the slight edge. As they say, the post season is a brand new season and a chance to re-write the past. The fifth seeded Eagles scored three first half goals, two by Tiffany Hunter, and kept Collingswood scoreless for the entire game. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, November 7, 2003 By Crystal Parker Haddon Heights had just won a physical game against Overbrook in the first round of the South Jersey Group II playoffs and knew it would not get any easier. Preparing to keep that winning level, the Garnets were at the high level of play during the first half of their matchup against the number one seed Collingswood. A four goal second half proved to be too much for the visiting Garnets. Samantha Milnes and Courtney Herrman each scored twice, leading Collingswood to a 5-1 victory over eighth seeded Haddon Heights. |
High School Field Hockey: Tuesday, November 4, 2003 By Crystal Parker The first round of the South Jersey Group II field hockey playoffs began today with the fifth seeded Eagles hosting the twelfth seeded Wolverines from Woodstown. It was a first round matchup that the higher seeded West Deptford wasted little time proving that they were the better team. Brenna Lewis’ goal just minutes into this game started the ball rolling for the Eagles. Brittany Gibbs and Tiffany Hunter scored twice and West Deptford cruised to an 8-1 victory and advanced to the next round against Glassboro. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, October 30, 2003 By Susan Hall It was a day that the word unbeaten streak could be associated with the sport of field hockey through out the South Jersey area. Before the Lady Crusaders from Bishop Eustace were hosting Cherry Hill West in a match up between the first and second place team, you couldn’t help but wonder if the Eastern field hockey team were going to set a new unbeaten record at 107. During this Olympic Conference National Division competition, Bishop Eustace showed by they was the team in first place by using a balanced attack shutting out the Cougars. Three different players scored for Bishop Eustace as the cruised to a 3-0 win. |
High School Field Hockey: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 By Crystal Parker Kingsway has been dominating the opposition all season long and only has a few more regular scheduled games to maintain their unbeaten streak. Five games ago, Kingsway battled to a one all tie with Eastern. Since then, no team has scored a goal against their defense. The Lady Dragons were matched up with the Lions from Gloucester in a Tri-County Conference interdivisional game. Gloucester had no answers to the two goals scored in the first half and one in the second. Abby Smith led the Dragons with two of the three goals scored in this game. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, October 16, 2003 By Susan Hall Right from the start of this field hockey competition between the Bishop Eustace hosting Triton, the Crusaders kept the play mostly in their opponent’s area. The forwards Theresa Barbati, Britney Singer and Kelly Burke were able to get a few shots toward the cage, but none of them found their way in close. But one did when Burke gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead that stood up for the rest of the game. With the win, Bishop Eustace keeps their divisional loss record clean. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, October 13, 2003 By Susan Hall Two good field hockey teams got a chance to play a team they normally would not have met during the regular season. Rancocas Valley were rolling through their schedule looking to extend their eight game unbeaten streak that included winning six games in a row. On the other hand, West Deptford had their four game winning streak ended by Shawnee last week and were looking to rebound. Allison Green scored the only goal needed as the Lady Eagles posted a non-league 3-0 victory. |
High School Field Hockey: Wednesday, October 8, 2003 By Susan Hall During their first meeting of the season, Paulsboro and Haddon Heights played a very close game with the Lady Garnets winning by two. A lot was learned from that game as these two teams met again, this time at Haddon Heights. With the game tie at one, the Garnets went right to work in the second half scoring four more goals and they never looked back. Alisa Farina found the cage three straight times, twice in the second half outscoring Paulsboro by a 5-1 margin. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, October 6, 2003 By Susan Hall Just image if you were that field hockey fan showing up at Collingswood High School and seeing the opponent’s goalie running from one end of the field, taking the pads off and lining up to take a penalty shot for her team. That’s exactly what goalie Kelsi Fanelli did during their Colonial Conference Liberty Division match against the Lady Panthers. Fanelli would score on that goal chance for Audubon, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the relentless pressure the Panthers put on the goalkeeper Kelsi Fanelli. Collingswood scored four times in the first half, once in the second, to cruise to the 5-1 victory keeping their record to a perfect 10-0. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, October 2, 2003 By Susan Hall What a difference a year makes for the Lady Cougars field hockey team from Cherry Hill West high school. Camden Catholic and Bishop Eustace from the start of a season have primarily dominated the Olympic Conference National division. This year, the Cougars are right in the thick of things and look to make a run at capturing the title. West jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first half and cruised to a 4-1 victory against Camden Catholic. Marissa Wisniewski scored a goal in each half to lead the Cougars. |
High School Field Hockey: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 By Susan Hall This year, it looks like it’s going to be a fierce battle for the Colonial Conference Patriot Division field hockey title. Three teams are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Gateway, Woodbury and Haddon Heights all have gotten off to a good start with the Lady Garnets from Haddon Heights looking to defend their title. Today, it was the Lady Knights from Sterling participating in a conference match-up. Lauren Piontowski scored twice and Alisa Farina netted what turned out to be the winning goal that highlighted Heights 4-1 victory over Sterling. |
