College Outdoor Track: Monday, May 21, 2007 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Travis Stewart completed his outstanding track season with a third-place finish and a Rutgers-Camden program record at 10,000 meters in the ECAC Championships May 17. Stewart posted a time of 31:56.39 to break his own record of 32:28.35, set April 6 at the Duke Invitational. During the spring, Stewart also set program records at 5,000 meters and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Stewart capped the scholastic year with his third Raptor of the Week honor. He also won the honor for cross country on Oct. 16 and shared it with cross country teammate Jonathan Salamon Oct. 30. |
College Outdoor Track: Monday, April 2, 2007 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Jonathan Salamon earns his third Raptor of the Week honor this school year after setting a program record while winning the 800-meter run at the Danny Curran Invitational March 31 at Widener University. Salamon's time of 1:55.62 broke the six-year old Rutgers-Camden mark of 1:57.77 set by David Lee, and came within .14 of tying the Danny Curran meet record. In addition, Salamon anchored the Raptors' sixth-place 4x400 team. He qualified for the ECAC Championships in both events. Salamon was the Co-Raptor of the Week during the cross country season (Oct. 30) and won outright Raptor of the Week honors for indoor track (March 5), giving him a weekly honor during every season this school year. |
College Outdoor Track: Monday, March 26, 2007 By Mike Ballard Freshman Akeem Lloyd ran the second leg on three successful Rutgers-Camden relay teams during the season-opening Richard Stockton Invitational March 24. The Raptors set program records in the distance medley (10:53.65) and the 800 sprint medley (1:37.69). They won their race in the distance medley and the 4x400 (3:27.38), while finishing second in the 800 sprint medley. Freshman Akeem Lloyd ran the second leg on three Rutgers University-Camden relay teams, two of which set program records and two of which won their event at the season-opening Richard Stockton Invitational March 24 in Pomona. |
College Indoor Track & Field: Monday, March 5, 2007 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Jonathan Salamon broke his own Rutgers-Camden indoor track record in the 500-meter dash and anchored the record-setting 4x800 relay team at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track Championships March 3 at Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.). Salamon's 1:07.36 clocking in the 500 meters broke his old mark of 1:07.75 and gave the Raptors three points with his sixth-place finish. He helped the 4x800 team to a second-place finish in a record time of 7:57.68, producing eight points as the Raptors compiled 12 points and tied for 26th place out of 55 scoring teams. A day earlier at the ECAC Championships, Salamon helped the distance medley team produce one point with an eighth-place finish in a school-record 10:32.93 clocking. |
College Indoor Track & Field: Monday, February 26, 2007 By Mike Ballard Junior Mike Fox earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team honors by winning the 800 meters and anchoring the victorious distance medley team at the NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 19. He was named the Most Outstanding Male Athlete at the conference meet. Fox, who helped the distance medley team set a program record (10:35.49), was named the NJAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week Feb. 20 for his accomplishments. It was his second weekly NJAC honor this season. He continued his brilliant week by breaking his own program record in the mile run (4:25.38) and running the leadoff leg on the record-setting 4x400 relay team (3:27.30) at the New York University FastTrack Invitational Feb. 23. |
College Indoor Track & Field: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 By Mike Ballard Rutgers University-Camden junior Mike Fox was named to the First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Team in the 800 meters and joined three teammates on the NJAC First Team for the distance medley when the conference announced its post-season honors today. Fox teamed with sophomores Jonathan Salamon and Stefon Coleman, and freshman Akeem Lloyd on the distance medley team, which captured the NJAC Championship at Monday's conference meet in a time of 10:35.49. Fox anchored that relay and also won the 800-meter run in a time of 1:58.76 as he was named the Most Outstanding Male Athlete at the NJAC Championships. Also earning conference honors was Scarlet Raptors sophomore Travis Stewart, who finished third in the 3,000-meter run with a school-record 8:57.05 clocking to earn All-NJAC Honorable Mention. |
College Indoor Track: Monday, February 5, 2007 By Mike Ballard Junior Mike Fox contributed to 20 points with a pair of first-place, program-record finishes to help the Scarlet Raptors' indoor track team place eighth out of 21 scoring teams at the Frank Colden Invitational Feb. 3 at Ursinus College. Fox won the 1,000-meter run with a record time of 2:35.34, then anchored the record-setting 4x800 relay team, which won its event in a time of 8:08.94. Rutgers-Camden collected 35.5 points to finish eighth out of 21 scoring teams in the men's competition, which was won by host Ursinus College (72.5). Rutgers-Camden did not compete in the women's invitational, which was won by Towson University (165). |
Cross Country Spotlight: Monday, February 5, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team member Oghogho (Joy) Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, NJ) has been named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2006 season. This is Aifuwa's second consecutive selection as a member of the Division II All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA, having earned this honor in 2005. To qualify for this honor an individual must have a cumulative grade point average through the semester of competition of a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. An athlete must have competed in at least 50% of their teams' cross country competitions, and finish in the top 30% at the NCAA Regional meet. The individual's coach must also be a member of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. |

College Cross Country: Monday, November 6, 2006 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Travis Stewart completed a Raptor of the Week hat trick, notching his third honor of the fall season after a spectacular performance at the ECAC Cross Country Championships Nov. 4. Stewart finished 12th out of 281 runners with his second-fastest clocking of the fall, running the 8K race in 26:50. It is the ninth-fastest time in program history. Stewart also earned Raptor of the Week on Oct. 16 and shared the honor with teammate Jonathan Salamon on Oct. 28. |
College Cross Country: Monday, October 30, 2006 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Travis Stewart and freshman Jonathan Salamon became the first Rutgers-Camden men to ever earn All-New Jersey Athletic Conference cross country honors as they made the All-NJAC Second Team at the conference meet Oct. 28. Stewart finished eighth and Salamon was 14th with times of 26:31.10 and 26:59.18, respectively. They helped Rutgers-Camden finish fifth in the men's race. It is the second Raptor of the Week honor this fall for Stewart, who also earned recognition Oct. 16. Stewart and Salamon, who each earned All-NJAC Second Team honors by finishing eighth and 14th, respectively, led the Rutgers-Camden men to a fifth-place finish in the conference meet with 107 points. It was the best finish ever for the Raptors since they started competing in the NJAC meet in 1992. |

Stewart and Salamon, who each earned All-NJAC Second Team honors by finishing eighth and 14th, respectively, led the Rutgers-Camden men to a fifth-place finish in the conference meet with 107 points. It was the best finish ever for the Raptors since they started competing in the NJAC meet in 1992. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Saturday, October 21, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, seeking their second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship, placed fourth overall at this morning's meet at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware. The Devils finished with 105 points, 18 behind third place Philadelphia University and 20 behind second place Felician College. Georgian Court University won the meet for the fifth time in the seven-year history of the championship. In those seven years, the Devils have never finished any lower than fourth place. Joy Aifuwa paced the Devils, finishing in second place overall with a time of 21:17.00, nine seconds behind overall winner Amanda Scibetta of Felician College. Joy earned All-CACC honors for the third consecutive year with her second place finish. In those three years, Aifuwa has finished no lower than third place overall, coming in second in 2004 and third last year. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Saturday, October 21, 2006 By Bob Heller Nick Willey and Matt Willard finished in the top ten overall at today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team placed seventh overall amongst the 10 schools competing. Willey's and Willard's (finish earned them All-CACC honors for the 2006 season. The All-CACC Men's Cross Country Team consists of the top 15 finishers in the CACC Championship race. Willey finished fourth overall with a time of 28:34.97. Willard placed eighth overall with a time of 28:54.38. For Willey, this is his second consecutive season earning all conference honors. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 By Bob Heller University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country runner Joy Aifuwa has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2006. Aifuwa is the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's cross country runner to earn ECAC honors this season. Joy earned the CACC Women's cross country Runner of the Week honors for the fourth straight week and the fifth time overall earlier this week. The junior harrier took third place overall at Saturday's Cabrini Invitational, completing the 5,000-meter course in 20:09.24 Aifuwa's time was her best 5K performance of the 2006 season. |
College Cross Country: Monday, October 16, 2006 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Travis Stewart captured the individual championship at the Cabrini Cross Country Invitational with a meet record of 27:07.37 to lead Rutgers-Camden to the team title Oct. 14 in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. Stewart set the pace and the rest of the Rutgers-Camden cross country team followed. Stewart led the 87-runner field with the 8K meet record of 27:07.37 to edge out his freshman teammate Jonathan Salamon as the Scarlet Raptors captured the team title at the Cabrini Cross Country Invitational Oct. 14 at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Rutgers-Camden finished with 64 points to top the 10-team field, 19 ahead of second place Keystone College. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Sunday, October 15, 2006 By Bob Heller In their final regular season meet before the Central Atlantic Collegiate conference championships, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team recorded their second consecutive third place finish at yesterday's Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. The Devils finished with 66 points, just one shy on second place Gwynedd-Mercy College. Ursinus College won the meet with a score of 27 points. Leading the way for USP, as she has all season, was Joy Aifuwa. Aifuwa completed the 5,000-meter course in 20:09.24, her fastest 5K time this year and good enough for third place overall. Hayley Lentz followed in 11th place overall with a time of 22:10.09. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Sunday, October 15, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team closed out the 2006 regular season yesterday afternoon with an eighth place finish at the Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. The Devils finished with 163 points, five behind seventh place Wesley College and 11 behind sixth place Catholic University. Rutgers-Camden took the team title with 64 points. The Devils were one of three schools to place two runners amongst the top ten overall finishers. Nick Willey finished fifth overall with a time of 27:59.22 while Matt Willard was seventh overall with a time of 28:12.45. USP's next finisher came in at 49th place overall. Nick Barkley completed the 8,000-meter course in 32:18.85. Barkley was followed by Mark Cifelli in 58th place with a time of 33:38.27. |

The Devils recorded 161 points, 23 behind fourth place Gloucester County College. Franklin and Marshall won the meet for the second consecutive year with 36 points. Richard Stockton University was second with 95 points and Georgian Court University was third with 127 points. |
Cross Country Spotlight: Sunday, September 24, 2006 By Bob Heller Matt Willard broke the Belmont Plateau school record but the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team finished a somewhat disappointing 9th place out of the 21 schools competing at yesterday's Philadlephia Metro Championship. Willard completed the 8,000-meter course in 27:56.35, bettering the mark of 28:37.53 set last year by teammate Nick Willey at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships. Willard's time was good enough for fourth place overall, 19 seconds behind overall winner Walter Tum of Bloomfield College. Willey also bettered his old mark, finishing in sixth place overall with a time of 28:01.85. |
College Track & Field: Monday, May 1, 2006 By Mike Ballard For the second time in two trips to The College of New Jersey this spring, Rutgers-Camden freshman track star Travis Stewart came away with a school record. On April 29, Stewart set the Scarlet Raptors' program mark with a 10:21.31 clocking in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Lions Invitational. He broke the mark of 10:32.7 set by Tom Thomasson in 1995. Earlier this spring, on his first visit to TCNJ for the New Jersey Invitational, Stewart set a school mark of 16:16.49 at 5,000 meters. That time also broke a record by Thomasson, who ran a 16:20.89 in 1999. |
College Track & Field: Saturday, April 15, 2006 By Mike Ballard Freshman Travis Stewart set a Rutgers University-Camden record in the 5,000-meter run as the Scarlet Raptors competed at the New Jersey Invitational here April 15. Stewart posted a time of 16:16.49 to finish seventh in the race. He beat the program record of 16:20.89 by Tom Thomasson at Montclair State March 27, 1999. The Rutgers-Camden men's team finished 12th of 13 programs with 10 points. Host The College of New Jersey won the event with 119 points, barely edging Richard Stockton College (118). |
South Jersey Track & Field: Sunday, March 26, 2006 By Mark Fletcher The eighth annual Ocean Drive Marathon took place on Sunday, March 26th. This 26.2-mile event starts in Cape May, covers the entire length of the boardwalk through Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, and North Wildwood, continues through picturesque oceanfront streets of Stone Harbor and Avalon, and ends on the Promenade in Sea Isle City. This year's winner was Chuck Engle of Jackson, MS in a time of 2:43:32. He was followed by Jeff Propert (2:53:00), Rudy Afanador (2:58:08), Eric Scheffler (2:58:29), and Keith Custer (2:59:14). Amazingly, this was Chuck Engle's twelfth marathon completed so far in 2006. He has eight victories and four second place finishes in those twelve marathons. Chuck has a goal of completing 50 marathons this year. |

Running the first 6K women’s race of the season the regular-season races are all 5K events Diener posted a time of 24:30.00, the second-fastest 6K time in program history. It was the second consecutive year that Diener earned All-NJAC Second Team honors at the conference meet. |

College Track & Field: Monday, May 30, 2005 By Mike Ballard Senior Tameka Jackson captured All-America honors for the second straight year when she finished eighth in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 28. She ran a 12.18, one day after setting a school record of 12.04 during her qualifying heat. Jackson, who broke her own school record in the qualifying heats with a time of 12.04 May 27, ran a 12.18 during Saturday’s final. She finished eighth for the second consecutive year in the event which was won by Diana Lawson of New Jersey City University in a time of 11.82. |
College Track & Field: Monday, May 9, 2005 By Mike Ballard Junior Carmen Zimmitt turned in an outstanding performance at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 7, winning the triple jump and finishing second in the long jump with a pair of program-record performances. She beat her own long jump record with a 17-7.75 and tied the mark in the triple jump (35-1.25). She also ran a leg on the school record-setting 4x100 relay team (48.31), which finished second, and competed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, finishing fourth and third, respectively. This is the second Raptor of the Week honor this school year for Zimmitt, who also won the award for her play on the women’s basketball team Jan. 17. |
College Cross Track & Field: Monday, April 25, 2005 By Mike Ballard Rutgers-Camden senior All-American Tameka Jackson (Camden, NJ/Sterling) captured first place in the 200-meter dash and set a stadium record while winning the 100-meter dash, and freshman Imani Hafiz (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea) set a school record in the triple jump as the Scarlet Raptors competed in the LVC Invitational April 20 at Lebanon Valley College. Jackson blazed to a 12.4 time in the 100-meter dash to break the Arnold Field stadium record of 12.54, set in 2000 by Lebanon Valley’s Meredith Roberts. Jackson also won the 200 in a time of 26.2. |

Track Spotlight: Saturday, November 6, 2004 By Bob Heller Shelby Rance set a USP course record as the women's cross country team placed 22nd at the NCAA East Regional Championship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania earlier today. Rance (So., Central Columbia HS/Bloomsburg, PA), the first Devils to finish, completed the 6,000-meter course in 25:12 (a 6:49 per mile pace) to establish a school course record. For Shelby it was her first and only 6K race of the season. (The Devils had only competed in one other during the regular season.) Rance finished 91st overall. |
College Cross Country: Monday, November 1, 2004 By Mike Ballard Junior Joelle Diener (Rickenbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule, Olten) finished 14th overall and earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team honors to power the Lady Raptors to a fifth-place finish at the NJAC Cross Country Championships at Richard Stockton College Oct. 30. The Lady Raptors compiled 148 points in the 6K race, which was won by The College of New Jersey (15 points). TCNJ also won the men’s 8K race with 22 points. Rutgers-Camden (231) finished eighth. |

College Cross Country: Monday, October 18, 2004 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers University-Camden women’s cross country team finished fourth out of 10 teams in the Cabrini College Invitational held here Saturday at the Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. The Lady Raptors compiled 63 points to finish behind Gwynedd-Mercy College (43), University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (52) and Cabrini (63). Junior Joelle Diener (Rickenbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule, Olten) led the Lady Raptors’ team, posting a time of 21:31.13 to finish fifth out of 48 runners. Senior Sarah Roberts (Pittsgrove, NJ/Schalick) finished 15th in a time of 23:11.26. |

With just Saturday's Cabrini Invitational remaining before the CACC Championship meet, the Devils got season bests from five of their top six runners as the finished in fourth place, their best team finish this season. USP scored 111 points, just 10 behind third place Holy Family University (101). Catholic University was the runaway winner, placing five runners in the top 10 to finish with 28 points. Gwynedd Mercy College was second with 92 points. |

West Chester finished with 52 points to capture the title while Nyack College was second with 68 and Albright College, third with 71. |

The USP women finished with 178 points behind defending champion Haverford College (60), DeSales University (64), West Chester University (106) and defending CACC champion Georgian Court College (163). The Devils fifth place finish was their best in this event since the 1998 season. (5th place) |
South Jersey Runner's Club: Saturday, July 24, 2004 By Art Redd Eight years and counting! That was the theme to this year's Bill Kile's Memorial Run Saturday morning at Jack Curtis Stadium in Cooper River Park. Each year the ultimate goal is to raise money for the William H. Kile Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund and each year the loyal runners show up to participate in either the One Mile Fun Run/Walk or the 4 Mile Run. Bill Kile III is always working hard before, during and after the race is completed greeting, organizing and helping the staff in providing all of the essentials needed in helping the runners in having a good run. In an impressive run, last year's winner Marc Cianfrani improved on his personal time and finished first in front of Daniel Deichert and Margarito Perez. Peggy Levin was the first women to cross the finish line. |
College Track & Field: Saturday, May 29, 2004 By Mike Ballard DECATUR, IL - Rutgers University-Camden junior Tameka Jackson (Pennsauken, NJ/Sterling) became the first female track All-American at Rutgers University-Camden when she finished eighth in the 100-meter dash finals at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships here Saturday at Millikin University. Jackson becomes the first Rutgers-Camden track All-American overall since Matt Collins (Gibbstown, NJ/Bishop Eustace) finished seventh in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 2001. |

College Track & Field: Monday, May 17, 2004 By Mike Ballard Junior Tameka Jackson set school records in the 100-meter dash (12.14) and the 200-meter dash (25.02) while finishing second and third, respectively, to account for 14 points at the ECAC Championships She also was a member of the Lady Raptors' sixth-place 4x100 relay team, which collected three more points as Rutgers-Camden finished with 17 points to tie for 19th place out of 52 scoring teams. Jackson's record-breaking times in the 100 and 200 dashes broke her own program records set at the Millersville Metrics on April 26, 2003. |
College Track & Field: Monday, May 3, 2004 By Mike Ballard Freshman Raphael Fuentes (Yonkers, NY/Haddonfield) broke his own Rutgers University-Camden school record in the 100-meter dash and helped set a school mark in the 4x100 relay as the Scarlet Raptors set three program records at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships May 1 at Richard Stockton College. Freshman Donna-Marie Kirk (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) set the other Rutgers-Camden record, breaking her own mark in the discus. |
High School Track: Tuesday, April 27, 2004 By Jason Brown After a weekend at the Woodbury relays, it was time for Bishop Eustace and Paul VI to participate in an individual outdoor track and field event. So far this young season, both the girl's and boy's squad has found their individual success from both teams. This time, the Crusaders from Bishop Eustace was playing host to Paul VI. On this day, Brian Blumenstein highlighted the boy's 85-55 win over Bishop Eustace. For the girl's meet, the Lady Crusaders posted an 80-60 win with Annie Taft winning the 200, high hurdles and long jump. |
College Track & Field: Monday, April 26, 2004 By Mike Ballard Freshman Raphael Fuentes (Yonkers, NY/Haddonfield) set Rutgers-Camden school records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and freshman Donna-Marie Kirk (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) broke her own school mark in the discus as the Scarlet Raptors’ track team competed in the TCNJ Lions Invite 2004, April 24 at The College of New Jersey. Fuentes blazed to a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.04. The old record of 11.4 was accomplished four times, with the last two times being turned in by junior captain Taiwan Lamb (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City), most recently at the Salisbury University Opener March 6, 2004. |

College Track & Field: Monday, April 5, 2004 By Mike Ballard Sophomore Mike Fox (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) won the 1,500-meter run in 4:22.5 and the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:48.6. Freshman Donna-Marie Kirk (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) won the discus competition with a throw of 99-5, finishing 13 inches ahead of her nearest competitor. In their next outing, at the Delaware Invitational April 10, the Raptors received another record-setting performance from Fox, who broke his own school record in the 1,500-meter run. Fox posted a time of 4:03.78 to finish third in the event. He topped the mark of 4:08.32 he had set in the Osprey Open at Richard Stockton College April 3. |
College Track & Field: Monday, April 5, 2004 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers University-Camden track team established three school records and received a pair of first-place finishes from junior sprinter Tameka Jackson (Pennsauken, NJ/Sterling) at the Osprey Open held at Richard Stockton College here Saturday. Jackson finished first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in times of 12.90 and 26.23, respectively. She has finished first in all three 100-meter dashes she has run this season and in two of the four 200-meter events. The Lady Raptors’ team also established school records in the discus and the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Donna-Marie Kirk (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) broke her own short-lived discus mark with a throw of 113-9, finishing second in the event. She had established the mark of 113-3 in her first collegiate meet, March 20, at the Richard Stockton Invitational. Kirk also finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 31-0.5. |
South Jersey Running: Two Olympians to chair and compete in Bancroft NeuroHealth 5K Race Todd Williams, Mark Croghan coming to March 20 event Race named 5K championship for Mid-Atlantic USATF Monday, February 23, 2004 By Paul Healy HADDONFIELD, N.J. - Two former Olympians and another world-class athlete will join hundreds of regional runners here for the 23rd Annual Bancroft NeuroHealth 5K Race. The event, along scenic Kings Highway, starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 20. Todd Williams, a two-time Olympian in the 10,000 meter event, and Mark Croghan, a three-time Olympian in the Steeplechase, have been named honorary co-chairs for the event. Also, Tim Broe, who finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials, will serve as an honorary co-chair. |
