Track Spotlight: Devils Finish Eleventh at Goldey Beacom Invitational Saturday, October 9, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP men's cross country team, competing at the Goldey Beacom Invitational, finished in 11th place as the West Chester University Rams completed a sweep, taking the men's title to go along with the women's title they won earlier. The Devils had 283 points, nine behind 10th place Bloomfield College and 13 behind ninth place Cabrini College. West Chester finished with 52 points to capture the title while Nyack College was second with 68 and Albright College, third with 71. Nick Barger (Fr., Our Lady of Lourdes HS/Stormville, NY) returned to action for the Devils after spraining his ankle at the Philadelphia Metro to be the first USP runner to cross the finish line. Barger finished in 48th place with a time of 32:28.15. Joseph Holton (Jr., Archbishop Ryan HS/North Wildwood, NJ) was the next Devils finisher, crossing the line in 52nd place with a time of 32:44.41. Vladimir Mezhiritskiy (So., Northeast HS/Philadelphia, PA) followed with a time of 33:58.48 (60th place). Rounding out the Devils top five were Mitesh Patel (Fr., Point Pleasant Boro HS/Point Pleasant, NJ) and Ryan Pell (So., West York HS/York, PA). Patel and Pell finished 62nd and 63rd respectively with times of 34:57.78 and 35:18.28. George Strock (So., Blue Mountain HS/Schuylkill Haven,PA) was the sixth Devil to cross the line, finishing in 68th place with a time of 36:00.88. Strock was followed by Mike Rodriguez (Sr., Sayreville HS/South Amboy, NJ) in 74th place (37:09.85). Rich DiGiacomo (Fr., St. John Neumann HS/ Philadelphia, PA) was two places behind Rodriguez in 76th place with a time of 37:32.87 while Jonathan Hanna (Jr., Old Bridge HS/Parlin, NJ) was 80th with a time of 39:21.53 Next up for the Devils will be the Cabrini Invitational on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at Belmont Plateau. |
