Cross Country Spotlight: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 By Bob Heller Philadelphia - University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s cross country runner Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, NJ) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2006. Aifuwa is the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women’s cross country runner to earn ECAC honors this season. Joy earned the CACC Women’s cross country Runner of the Week honors for the fourth straight week and the fifth time overall earlier this week. The junior harrier took third place overall at Saturday’s Cabrini Invitational, completing the 5,000-meter course in 20:09.24 Aifuwa’s time was her best 5K performance of the 2006 season. Aifuwa's performance helped lead the Devils to a third place finish. The Devils finished the race with 66 points, narrowly missing out on second place to Gwynedd Mercy College who had 65 points. Ursinus College won the meet with a score of 27 points. The former Edison High School athlete is in her third season of competition for the Devils. In 2005, she earned Runner of the Week honors five times and finished 3rd at the 2005 CACC Championships earning All Conference honors for the second consecutive year. Since the 2004 season, Aifuwa has earned CACC Runner of the Week honors 13 times. Next up for the Devils will be the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships, hosted by Goldey Beacom College at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, October 21, 2006. |
