Track Spotlight: Aifuwa Earns CACC Runner of the Week Honors Tuesday, September 28, 2004 By Bob Heller For the second time this season, University of the Sciences cross country runner Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, NJ) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week. The honor was based on her performance at last weekend’s Philadelphia Metro Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. Aifuwa, a freshman pharmacy major, completed the 5,000 meter course in 20:56.14, finishing tenth overall and helping the Devils to a fifth place finish; their best finish at this particular meet since the 1998 season. Her performance was also the fifth fastest time ever by a USP women’s cross country runner at the Philadelphia Metro meet. The former Edison High School athlete is in her first season of competition for the Devils. Next up for the Devils will be the Tenth Annual Belmont Classic at Belmont Plateau on Saturday, October 2, 2004. |
