The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that the Philadelphia KiXX has received two-of-the-three individual weekly League honors for the seven-day period ending December 28. Goalkeeper Stuart Dobson was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week and defender Pat Morris was awarded as the Defensive Player of the Week for their play in the club’s back-to-back contests this weekend.

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX forward Goran Vasic has been named the MISL Offensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 30. Vasic receives the award after registering a team-high six points in the club’s back-to-back contests this past weekend. The native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia kicked-off the back-to-back series with four points on three goals and one assist as the KiXX downed the Kansas City Comets, 13-8, in Kansas City on November 28. The six-year veteran continued his hot foot with a team-high two points, both assists, in the club’s 3-2 loss in San Diego on November 29.

It seemed as if it was a privilege to be playing on the nice soccer field at Rutgers-Camden University. Now on particular days, especially this South Jersey Parochial A title game, the wind just blows right off of the Delaware River creating more challenges for teams to overcome. St. Augustine took full advantage of their scoring opportunities even when they were facing the wind in the second half against Paul VI. The Hermits showed why they were the number one seed by shutting out the Eagles 2-0.

The Lady Crusaders were in a very familiar place but something was a little different. For the past three years, the girl’s soccer team from Bishop Eustace was the third seeded team heading into the playoffs. This year as the number one seed in the South Jersey Parochial B bracket, the Crusaders moved one step closer. Making another run at capturing their second straight title, Bishop Eustace recorded a 2-0 victory over fifth seeded Purple Roses from St. Rose of Belmar. Next up for the Crusaders will be the title game against Holy Spirit.

Ocean City Survives In Overtime Against Highland

It was a goal that gave one team a sigh of relief, and the other a heartbreaking defeat in a brilliant effort. Knowing that the Ocean City boy’s soccer team was the favorite in this South Jersey Group III quarterfinals game, Highland continued to play solid soccer for two halves staying competitive against the Red Raiders. But in the end, Rich Baker’s goal in the second overtime session was the game-winner for Ocean City. The 2-1 win sent the Red Raiders to the semi-finals round looking to regain the group title.

The Philadelphia KiXX (4-1) defeated the Cleveland Force (3-2) 7-4 tonight in front of 3,417 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum to remain perfect, 2-0, at home this season. Philadelphia-native Pat Morris connected on the game winner at 11:10 of the third quarter. Peter Pappas (4-1) earned the victory in net for the KiXX, recording 10 saves on 14 shots faced, while Jim Larkin (3-2) took the loss for Cleveland.

Daylight savings time has been an issue lately as we get closer and closer to the winter months. It looked as if this South Jersey Group II boy’s soccer game between Middle Township and Sterling would go on forever. After the fifth seed Middle Township’s second half goal sent this game into overtime, Sterling would respond finally give the home crowd something to cheer about. It would take a second overtime period to determine the winner. Scott Kent made good on his scoring opportunity and gave the fourth seeded Knights from Sterling a 2-1 overtime win.

Both teams knew that each had that player that could take over a game with their ability to score goals. When sixth seeded Mainland traveled to Lenape High School to participate in the first round of the South Jersey Group IV tournament, R.J. Romeo would put the Mustangs ahead in the first half. The Indians also had a player who leads the team in goals and would respond with a goal of his own. Jeremey Ortiz countered with a goal and an assist giving Lenape a 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

It was the first day of the girl’s Group II playoffs, and today’s competition featured the 8th seeded Garnets from Haddon Heights hosting the 9th seeded Chiefs from Buena Regional High School. Last year, each team ended their playoff run abruptly losing in the first round. This year, both of these teams fought hard to make it to the playoff and neither wanted to repeat their fate from last year. The Lady Garnets would extend their season with a 2-0 victory and will now faced the top-seeded Pirates from Cinnaminson.

The Philadelphia KiXX (3-1) kicked-off the their 18-game home schedule with a thrilling 9-4 victory tonight over reigning Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast (2-3) in front of 6,878 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. The nine-point performance tonight marks the highest output for the squad this season. Philadelphia captain Kevin Sloan connected on a game-high four goals in the contest, while forward Shawn Boney recorded the game-winner at 7:59 of the second quarter. Sloan’s performance ties his highest output as a member of the KiXX. Goalkeeper Peter Pappas (3-1) earned the victory between the posts for the KiXX, recording 22 saves on the 26 shots he faced, while Karim Moumban (0-1) took the loss for the Blast (4 saves on 11 shots).

It was the last regular scheduled season game for both of these teams as they would use this game as a tune up before the group playoffs begin. The Haddon Township Hawks traveled to Highland High School to take on the Tartans’ boy’s soccer team. The Tartans posted a 4-2 victory in a non-league game. Highland will play it’s first round on Tuesday against Lacey Township while the Hawks will have a tough match against Haddonfield on Thursday.

What a difference a month makes? Paul VI would like nothing more than to win out the rest of their games to capture the Olympic Conference National Division title. But there are other teams that would also like the recognition of being called the champs. In a boy’s soccer game played at Bishop Eustace, the Crusaders were looking for a big win against Paul VI. The Eagles won their first meeting of the season and also their last. Three different players scored for Paul VI as they walked away with a 3-1 victory.

With majority of their regular season games completed and West Deptford holding a slim lead in the division, the Lady Eagles would continue their winning ways by staying ahead of second place Haddonfield. Dana Romaine netted two goals against the Green Wave and win by a 2-1 margin.

Patience can be described as the way the girl’s soccer team from Bishop Eustace has be playing so far this year. Sitting on top of the Olympic Conference National Division, alone, the Lady Crusaders were not taking Camden Catholic lightly. With their 3-1 victory, Bishop Eustace extended their winning streak to three games in a row and kept their division record clean of any loses. Aimee Bresani scored more goals in this game to lead Bishop Eustace.

The top of the Olympic Conference National Division has become a wide-open race between Paul VI, Timber Creek and Bishop Eustace. Each has played one another with the exception of Paul VI matching up with Timber Creek. The Eagles from Paul VI were hosting the Crusaders from Bishop Eustace and were looking to pick up their fourth win of the season. Paul VI scored all of the goals of the game in the first half and it was enough to get by the Crusaders.

During the first half of this game, you could feel the intensity from both teams that this was a very important boy’s soccer game. It was a match up against the top two teams from the Colonial Conference Liberty Division. The Sterling Silver Knights were playing host to the undefeated Bulldogs from Haddonfield. This game would come down to a late goal by Greg Maiatico just under two minutes remaining in the game. Both teams played well, but it was Haddonfield who would extend their record to 6-0.

The Triton Mustangs just did not quit even when they were down by a goal against a Paul VI girl’s soccer team that has established themselves as a successful program. Playing at home, the Lady Mustangs had an entire second half to hold onto their lead. Ashley Juavinett would tie and then score the go ahead goal in the first half. Karen Campanella would assist on the game-winning goal that helped Triton defeat Paul VI by a 2-1 score in an Olympic Conference National Division meeting.

The Pirates from Cinnaminson has been playing good soccer so far this season. The boy’s soccer team has only allowed one goal through their first 4 games this season. That lone goal allowed was their only loss of the season to division rivalry Delran. Today, the Pirates would pick up their third straight victory posting a 5-0 win in a Burlington County interdivision match against Burlington Township. Mark Giotunis scored twice to lead Cinnaminson.

It was a scene that expressed how tough this girl’s soccer competition really was for two halves. One team elated that they had won a one-goal game, the other feeling disappointed that this would have been a different game if it weren’t for the crossbar. Shawnee (2-1) would travel to Ocean City to take on the Lady Red Raiders in a non-league game. After neither team would score in the first half, each team picked up the intensity and shots on goal. Katie Royman made good on her opportunity and scored the game’s only goal for the Lady Renegades.

With the start of the high school soccer season upon us, it’s hard not to notice that the World Cup games are being played in our area at Lincoln Financial Field. With all the media coverage and the crowd line up to attend these games help our players to realize that the sport of soccer is extremely popular all over the world. What was more important today was a win for either the Crusaders from Bishop Eustace or the Triton Mustangs. Neither team could not get that one goal after the first overtime and had to settle for the tie in an Olympic Conference National Division competition.

The most notable player in US Women’s soccer, Mia Hamm, showed the crowd of 31,553 why she is the still one of the best players in the world. At the age of 31, she took control of the game with her speed, hustle, defensive play, offensive play, passing, and shooting in the USA 5-0 win over Nigeria. The only part of the game that she didn’t have control over was the way the game was officiated, which in this reporter’s mind was not good for the level of play.

Right from the opening whistle indicating the start of this game, the Dragons from Kingsway kept the pressure on Matt Dicken. Early on, Dicken was able to keep the ball from crossing the goal line but it was only a matter of time before the Dragons found the back of the net. Kingsway would have their way in the second half expanding on their one goal lead after the half. Scoring a total of five goals, the defense was also rewarded with a shutout of the Spartans at Deptford High School.

The thirst of soccer action can finally be satisfied with the start of the high school fall sports. Ready to get their season underway and start another run at the Colonial Conference Patriot Division title, the Garnets wasted little time deciding the outcome of their home game against divisional foe Paulsboro. From the opening possession, Heights’ Lou Dollarton found the open net just 30 seconds into the game and the Garnets were on their way to a 6-1 victory. Dollarton scored twice in the first half of this game.

It’s located right at the bottom of the Ben Franklin Bridge, with a view of Campbell’s Field and the skyline of Philadelphia. But it was the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown, lead by sophomore forward Brian Zalasky’s two goals in the first half that defeated the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden 3-0.

Heather Mitts and Lorrie Fair were both invited to train with the U.S. Women's National Team in preparation for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, which begins in September. Head coach April Heinrichs invited 29 players to the training. She is expected to cut that number to between 18 and 20 for the final World Cup roster. Fair has 114 caps with the national team, having been the only Charge member to be on the U.S. team that won the 1999 World Cup title. Mitts has only four caps, but her play this past season in the WUSA has catapulted her into the mix. Heinrichs has not decided when she will announce her final roster.

The Charge once again played to a deadlock this past Saturday night, tying the San Diego Spirit 1-1. Stacey Tullock's goal in stoppage time helped the Charge salvage a point and remain in the hunt for the postseason. Tuloock's goal came in dramatic fashion, as just moments earlier Philadelphia leading scorer Marinette Pichon was carted off the field with a lower back contusion and goalkeeper Melissa Moore made a save on an Allie Sullivan on a breakaway. The tie moved the Charge to 3-6-4 for 13 points this season. The team gained a point on seventh place San Jose, which has 17, and is only seven points behind fourth-place New York. Philadelphia has two games in hand over the CyberRays and Power.

Philadelphia Charge forward Marinette Pichon was named the WUSA Player of the Month for June on Wednesday. Pichon had five goals and one assist for a league best 11 points in the month. She tallied 29 points in the voting on 14 first-place votes and one second-place vote.

(VILLANOVA)---Marinette Pichon scored two goals for the Charge but the Philadelphia defense twice surrendered the lead in a 2-2 ties against the Boston Breakers. Both Boston goals came four minutes after each Charge scores, with Ragnhild Gulbrandsen’s first goal of the season knotting the score with less than two minutes in regulation.

Philadelphia Charge goalkeeper Melissa Moore was named the MET-Rx Player of the Week on Monday for efforts during the week ending June 15 in the Women's United Soccer Association. Moore finished with 22 points, garnering 10 first-place and two second-place votes. She outdistanced second-place finisher Christie Welsh of New York by three points.

Marinette Pichon scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season and Melissa Moore made six saves to lead the Philadelphia Charge to a 2-0 win over the San Diego Spirit on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. The Charge (3-5-2, 11 pts) moved to 2-0-2 in their last four games, having also beaten the Spirit (3-3-4 13 pts) last Saturday in San Diego.

The Power scored twice in the final five minutes, with Krista Davey recording the game-winner in stoppage time to improve her club's overall record to 2-3-0 (6 pts) this season.

Melanie Hoffmann scored the first goal of her WUSA career on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Charge fell to the Boston Breakers, 3-1, at a cold, windy and rainy Nickerson Field. Hoffmann's goal in the 90th minute broke up the chance of the Charge being shutout in consecutive games and ended a 374-minute scoreless drought that dated back to last season and included the playoffs.

Lorrie Fair led the way for the Charge on Sunday registering an assist and a goal in the team's 3-0 win over a group of college All-Stars. Fair and Anne Makinen both tallied a goal before the half, giving the Charge a 2-0 lead at the break. Kelly Smith scored midway through the second half to give the Charge the 3-0 win. Melissa Moore and Janel Schilling split time in net, combining for the shutout.

Melissa Moore made six saves for the Philadelphia Charge on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough as her team lost to the San Jose CyberRays 1-0 at Spartan Stadium in the season opener for both teams. Katie Barnes scored the lone goal of the game and LaKeysia Beene made five saves for the CyberRays (1-0-0, 3pts), who handed the Charge (0-1-0) their first loss on opening day in three years. Beene now has four wins lifetime against the Charge and three shutouts, as San Jose also improved to 4-0 at home and 4-1-2 overall against the Charge all-time.

The postponement is due to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) breakout in China that has forced the closure of the plant where the figurines were being produced.

With the start of the 2003 WUSA regular season just 12 days away, Philadelphia Charge head coach Mark Krikorian named his 18-person roster Monday and making the club are U.S. national team members Lorrie Fair, Jenny Benson, Heather Mitts and Hope Solo. Fair, Benson and Mitts have been with the Charge since the first year of the Women's United Soccer Association. Solo, a goalkeeper, was the club's first selection (fourth overall) in the 2003 draft after being named an All-American at the University of Washington.

Paul Wright connected on the game-winning goal from Carlos Farias at 10:15 of the fourth quarter. Pappas (16-5) took the loss for Philadelphia, while Nick Vorberg improved to 7-12 with the victory.

With the win, the KiXX clinched a spot in the 2003 MISL Playoffs. Pat Morris recorded the game-winner from Peter Pappas at 6:20 of the first quarter. Pappas (16-4) earned the victory for Philadelphia, recording 14 saves on 15 shots, while Jesse Llamas (1-1) took the loss for the Sidekicks, stopping 10 of the 20 shots he faced.

Peter Pappas (14-3) earned the victory for Philadelphia, recording 14 saves on 18 shots, while Wes Wade (0-2) took the loss for the Comets, stopping 17 of the 22 shots he faced.

Philadelphia Charge midfielder Lorrie Fair and defender Jenny Benson were selected to the U.S. Women's National Team roster on Wednesday for the Four Nations Tournament that will begin on January 23 in China. Fair and Benson, both of whom helped the U.S. win the 2002 Gold Cup in November to clinch a spot in the 2003 World Cup, were two of 20 players selected to the team by U.S. coach April Heinrichs. The U.S. will leave tomorrow for China and open play next Thursday, January 23 against Norway.

The Philadelphia KiXX (15-3) and Joel Shanker though had other intentions; a re-start goal with 12 seconds left in the half brought the KiXX back to within one goal at 5-4.
