Soccer Spotlight: Boney Named MISL Offensive Player Of The Week KiXX Forward Honored After Career Night Versus Monterrey November 22 Monday, November 24, 2003 By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX forward Shawn Boney has been named the MISL Offensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 23. Boney receives the award after posting a career-high showing in the club’s 8-5 victory over the visiting Monterrey Fury on November 22. The Tacarigua, Trinidad native led all scorers Saturday night with four points on four goals. His four-goal performance establishes a personal career-high for goals scored in a single contest and ties his career-high for points. Boney last recorded four points in a single game versus the rival Blast in Baltimore on November 17, 2001. The 32-year old forward now sits third on club, tied for 12th in the MISL, with 11 points on nine goals and two assists. Boney fashioned his most productive season with Philadelphia last year, in which he tallied 40 points in 34 contests. Overall in his career, the seven-year veteran has recorded 161 points in 171 games played. This is the second such nomination for the Southern Connecticut State University graduate; he was also honored as the Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 18, 2001. Boney was selected to the All-Rookie Team as a member of the Cleveland Crunch after the 1997-98 campaign. Boney and the first-place KiXX next prepare for their second set of back-to-back contests, kicking-off on Friday, November 28 in Kansas City. Game-time at the Kemper Arena versus the Comets is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET. The club then travels west to San Diego, where they will battle the San Diego Sockers on Saturday, November 29. The contest is set for a 10:05 pm ET start time at the San Diego Sports Arena. |
