The Philadelphia Charge announced today the postponement of the scheduled home-opener giveaway of the Kelly Smith Figurine Bank courtesy of Beneficial Savings Bank. The postponement is due to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) breakout in China that has forced the closure of the plant where the figurines were being produced.
The Charge will instead giveaway sport head bands courtesy of Beneficial Savings Bank to the first 3,000 fans 14 & under at the Saturday, May 3 home opener against the New York Power. Game time is 4 p.m. with gates opening at 2:30 p.m.
The Kelly Smith Figurine Banks courtesy of Beneficial Savings Bank will now be given away to the first 2,000 fans 16 & under at the Saturday, August 2 game when the Charge takes on the Atlanta Beat. Game time is 7 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
"What has happened is beyond our control," Charge general manager Tim Murphy said. "It's important to us that our fans still get the Kelly Smith banks. Beneficial Savings Bank has been terrific and is now providing great heads band for the home opener."
Philadelphia begins its 2003 campaign this Saturday, April 5 versus the San Jose CyberRays. The team will then face the Breakers in Boston on Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. before making their home debut on May 3 versus Tiffeny Milbrett and the NY Power at 4 p.m. For ticket information on the upcoming 2003 season call the Philadelphia Charge office at 215-467-GOAL.
