It was the first day of the girl’s Group II playoffs, and today’s competition featured the 8th seeded Garnets from Haddon Heights hosting the 9th seeded Chiefs from Buena Regional High School. Last year, each team ended their playoff run abruptly losing in the first round. This year, both of these teams fought hard to make it to the playoff and neither wanted to repeat their fate from last year. The Lady Garnets would extend their season with a 2-0 victory and will now faced the top-seeded Pirates from Cinnaminson.
Being a part of the Group II competition did not seem to bother the girl’s from Haddon Heights. After making it to the Group I playoffs last year for the first time in a while, the Garnets treated this year the same as last year. It was a soccer game against two schools that wanted to advance. Casey Orlando scored the first goal of this playoff game at the 34:42 mark giving Heights that all-important early lead. That lead grew by one with Meredith Kennedy assisted Christine Babcock sixteen minutes later of the first half. For the rest of this game, keeper Katie Hastings recorded seven saves to preserve the shutout victory.
