South Jersey Soccer: Sunday, November 8, 1998
By Jerry Amari The Vineland Hurricanes hit the road for Upper Twp. to meet the Raptors. The Hurricanes put together their biggest and best offensive performance of the Fall season. Vineland jumped on the Raptors early in the match. At the four minute mark, Vineland's Billy Redden launched his second cornerkick of the day at the Upper Twp. goal. The ball needled its way through most of the players to defender Evan Bostrom. Bostrom "bodied" the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Upper Twp. fought back to knot the game at 1-1. Steve Bond's long pass to a racing Bill Redden found Redden a half step in front of his defender. Redden deposited the ball into the left corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead. Vineland started to roll early in the second half. Right forward Bobby Rupp saved the ball from going out of bounds. Rupp then moved the ball to the 18 line and sent a centering pass to Nick Ruskoski who sent the ball home for a 3-1 margin. Ruskoski moved the ball around several defenders for his second goal of the match (4-1). Regular defenseman Micke Rigo got into the scoring action as the Upper goalie bobbled the ball on Rigo's initial shot (5-1). Finally the Hurricanes finished off the win with another score by Billy Redden, as Redden's shot sailed high into the center of the goal for the 6-1 victory. Hurricane goalie Jeremy Chini held the Raptors at bay. Evan Bostrom, Dan Peretti and Ryan Gregor played outstanding defense for Vineland. The Hurricane's record is now 6-1-1 in the North American Division of the South Jersey Soccer League.
