High School Softball: Thursday, May 3, 2007 By Stephanie Wright With the cutoff date to qualify for the playoffs not that far away, teams have been competing at a higher level doing whatever they can to extend their regular season. Two teams who just would not give up were West Deptford and Haddon Heights. These teams from the Colonial Conference knew the importance of this softball game and neither one of them gave up even when they were behind on the scoreboard. After West Deptford extended their lead to two runs, the Garnets needed to come up big during their last at bat. Haddon Heights would push across three runs during the bottom of the seventh inning and defeat the Lady Eagles by an 8-7 margin. |
High School Softball: Monday, April 2, 2007 By Susan Hall The Lady Bulldogs from Haddonfield traveled to Haddon Heights to start off the new softball season. Both of these teams were looking to begin their season by playing fundamental softball in order to come away with the win. This game started out to be a pitcher's duel forcing the batters to do whatever it takes to get the bat on the ball and making something happen in the field. The Garnets finally broke the scoreless tie late in the game and took a two run lead up until the final innings. Bobbie Padgett pitched a complete game for Haddon Heights and the Lady Garnets picked up the 2-1 victory during their home opener. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, September 25, 2006 By Susan Hall For so long, the Lady Panthers from Collingswood field hockey team has been one of those squads that opponents were either a bit nervous competing against or knew they were in for a hard fought battle. The Panthers' success has been dominating but with every new season, change is always waiting to occur. In a Colonial Conference match-up between the Lady Garnets from Haddon Heights and Collingswood, it would be the Garnets that were able to get the only goals of this game. Haddon Heights would score once in the first half and once in the second and defeat Collingswood 2-0. The win pushed the Garnets record to three wins and three losses early in this season. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, September 11, 2006 By Susan Hall The season has started out well for Haddonfield so far and they were looking to continue that success. It is hard not to look ahead at their match-up against Eastern later on in the week, but Haddonfield would have to take it one game at a time. The Bulldogs had battled West Deptford to a one goal victory and keeper Christina Puggi was looking to come up with another defensive contest in front of the net and Haddonfield's defense would help her out. Haddonfield would score three times in this game and shut out Haddon Heights by that 3-0 margin. |
High School Softball: Monday, May 15, 2006 By Stephanie Wright With so much focus on teams qualifying for the playoffs, coaches whose teams that have fallen short of the requirements must continue to motivate their players and achieve a different set of goals. For Haddon Heights and Gateway, their chance to move into the state tournament may be over but the regular season must go on. The Lady Garnets finally ended their two game losing streak when they traveled to Gateway to participate in an Colonial Conference softball game. Bobbi Padget would pitch her way to an 8-1 victory for Haddon Heights giving up just two hits. |
High School Softball: Friday, April 7, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty It all begins with the pitcher on the mound at least concentrating on getting the ball over the plate with some velocity for a strike. When that confidence begins to build up, the pitcher begins to add a bit more arm swing behind the pitch. Heather Morgan for the Green Wave from Audubon was able to strike out ten batters against Haddon Heights this afternoon. With Morgan's success on the mound, the offense would provide an early three run lead that the Lady Garnets were unable to overcome. The Wave would post a 7-2 victory in conference play. |
High School Basketball: Tuesday, March 7, 2006 By Susan Hall It was a battle between two familiar opponents competing in the South Jersey Group 2 girls' basketball finals being held at Williamstown High School. The top ranked Lady Garnets from Haddon Heights were hosting the third seeded Bulldogs from Haddonfield and it would be another game to remember. These two teams from the Colonial Conference met twice during the regular season with both teams winning on their home court. This time at a neutral site, the Garnets halftime lead would be quickly erased during the third quarter and Haddonfield would control the game and the lead from that point on. The Lady Bulldogs would capture the Group 2 championship title with their 42-36 come from behind victory. |
High School Basketball: Thursday, February 16, 2006 By Susan Hall When the first time Haddon Heights and Haddon Township met a month ago in a Colonial Conference girls' basketball game, the Lady Hawks got off to a very slow start and were unable to recover from that deficit. This time on their home court, Haddon Township jumped out to a two point lead at halftime over the conference leading Lady Garnets from Haddon Heights. The Garnets' defensive pressure took over during the second half to take control of this game. Haddon Heights would extend their winning streak to eight games with their 45-31 victory over the Hawks. |
High School Basketball: Friday, February 3, 2006 By Susan Hall The Colonial Conference is still up for grabs meaning that every game is extremely important as the regular season winds down. Haddon Heights were amongst the leaders of the conference battling it out with Haddonfield, Sterling, Haddon Township and Collingswood all with a legitimate chance of finishing in first place. Every conference game was important and on this night, the Lady Garnets were playing host to the Green Wave from Audubon. The first quarter found Audubon keeping the game close after the first quarter ended, but the middle two quarters proved to be the difference. Haddon Heights would outscore their opponent 26-9 during those quarters and pull away for the 43-29 victory. |
High School Basketball: Tuesday, January 17, 2006 By Jason Brown Whenever teams has been going through a losing streak, the best remedy is to find out what needs to be fixed and get back on the court. When the Garnets from Haddon Heights traveled to Haddon Township, both teams were looking to find a way to come away with the win. The Colonial Conference has several teams that were capable of putting up double digit victories. This game would be a chance to come away with a conference win. Brandon Kersey had success find his range helping Haddon Heights break a halftime tie and built a lead that decided this game. The Garnets would post the 51-43 victory and pick up their first conference win. |
High School Soccer: Monday, October 31, 2005 By Susan Hall It's the start of a new season for those who qualified for the sectional group tournament. The life of living through a bracket which determines your seeding and who you will compete against is somewhat first on your mind. Well an interesting match-up between the eighth and ninth seeded teams always provides a competitive event especially during the playoffs. Haddon Heights would be the traveling team looking to advance to the next round against Audubon. The Lady Garnets would be that team moving on as they defeated Audubon by a 2-0 score. Haddon Heights will now travel to Haddonfield who are the number one seeded team in the South Jersey Group II tournament. |
High School Field Hockey: Saturday, October 29, 2005 By Susan Hall There were three teams right at the top of the Colonial Conference Patriot Division with a chance of claiming the title for their school. Haddon Heights, Haddon Township and Audubon were all heading into the final weekend of the regular schedule all needing a win. Haddon Township had loss to Collingswood on Friday night leaving the door wide open for the Lady Garnets traveling to Audubon to decide the title. Haddon Heights had their hopes of repeating as champs turned away by Audubon’s defense. With an early one goal lead, goalie Gina Medoro helped Audubon pick up the 1-0 decision. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, October 17, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty Two teams in search of a divisional title took the field at Collingswood both looking to extend on a mini winning streak. Haddon Heights were right on the heels of Haddon Township in the Patriot Division of the Colonial Conference while the Lady Panthers were in striking distance of first place in the Liberty Division behind West Deptford. Neither Collingswood nor Haddon Heights had to worry about qualifying for the state tournament as both teams were concentrating on finding a way to pick up the victory. Collingswood Amy Corbit and Katie Feely each scored twice and the Lady Panthers would cruise to the 6-1 win. |
High School Football: Monday, October 10, 2005 By George Brookings Sometimes you just got to do what you got to do. It seem as if the rain just would not end this weekend leaving the decision to reschedule the game between Gateway and Haddon Heights to another available day. Well that day happened to be a holiday for most and the Garnets would host Gateway in a Colonial Conference Patriot divisional game. Haddon Heights did what they had to do during the second half of this game on defense as they watched their lead diminish during the final quarter. Gateway had lined up their offense looking to tie the game on a two point conversion, but the Garnets would watch that pass fall incomplete. Haddon Heights would hold on to their slim lead the rest of the way and defeat the Gators 14-12. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 10, 2005 By Jerome Michaels With the calmness of a stalking predator, the Lions from Lindenwold went out and impressed head coach Derryk Sellers in their opening day victory at Haddon Heights. Both teams were eager to get onto the field and start making contact to finalize the start of their football season. Lindenwold’s defense dominated both halves of this game while runningback Akeem Cartwright took care of the scoring chores for the Lions scoring the only two touchdowns of the game. Lindenwold would post a 14-0 win over Haddon Heights in a Colonial Conference game. |
