High School Field Hockey: Thursday, November 11, 2004 By Susan Hall When the seeding has been decided for teams to compete for a group title, usually the top seeded teams are projected as the schools that will make it to the championship game. For Haddon Heights, that theory was completely thrown out of the window as they have been the team to beat. The eleventh seeded Garnets were trying to make it one more time in defeating the higher seed. Collingswood was that team standing in their way and they proved to be the better team on this day. Two unanswered goals by the Panthers allowed them to rally past Haddon Heights as the top seed in the South Jersey Group 2 championship game. Collingswood captured the title by a 2-1 margin. |
High School Field Hockey: Tuesday, November 9, 2004 By Susan Hall It was a familiar place the Lady Quakers field hockey team has been for the past four years and that place was a trip to the sectional finals game that they would be hosting. With their 5-1 win over Freehold, Moorestown will go for the Central Jersey Group 3 title against Manasquan. The Quakers would break open a close game in the second half to finally put away any thoughts of being knocked out of this semifinals field hockey game. A one goal lead at half time turned into marginal victory for Moorestown whose defense was excellent and the offense just pure unlucky. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, November 8, 2004 By Susan Hall It's something that the Gloucester field hockey team has gotten use to, which is making it to the South Jersey Group 1 finals. For the past five years, the Lady Lions have been making it a habit showing up in four out of the past five years battling for the title. Gloucester will meet a familiar opponent in the finals all due to the 2-1 win over Salem in the semifinals. The Lions will be taking on St. Joseph for the third year in a row. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, November 5, 2004 By Susan Hall Things have gotten very interesting in the South Group 2 bracket for this year's field hockey playoffs. Camden Catholic had a bye in the first round as the number two seed and had plenty of time preparing for Middle Township who had advanced with a win over Buena. With their 5-1 victory over the seventh seed, next up for the Irish is a match up with a very successful Haddon Heights team who are looking for their third upset in a row. With their victory today, Camden Catholic's Coach Monica DiBease picked up her 100th career win. |
High School Field Hockey: Tuesday, November 2, 2004 By Stephanie Wright It was one of those games were the impossible occurred. On paper, this game looked to be a lopsided victory for the fourth seeded team hosting a thirteen seeded team. The Sterling Knights field hockey team has had a very successful season posting an impressive record in a very tough division. There efforts awarded them with their first trip to the postseason ever and getting a chance to play on its own field against Haddon Township. With a goal in the first half and another in the second half, the Lady Hawks were well on their way to celebrating an upset victory. Haddon Township will face fifth seeded Bishop Eustace with their 2-0 victory. |
High School Field Hockey: Saturday, October 9, 2004 By Boog Williams The word going around Eastern (#1) this past week was that Kingsway (#3) better watch out this weekend. The field hockey team made good on its word, as they defeated Kingsway 9-0. In a rematch from last year’s 1-1 tie, which capped Eastern’s winning streak at 92, the game ended up being no match. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, October 8, 2004 By Crystal Parker When the whistle is blown indicating the start of the game, all of the pre-game preparations by the coaching staff finally would get executed on the field. Highland knew they would have a tough time against one of the leagues' leading scorers in Kim Brozosky. Trying to keep up with her throughout the entire game wouldn't be easy and it wasn't. The senior from Clearview Regional dominated her position during both halves of this Tri-County Conference Royal Division field hockey game. Brozosky added four more goals to her 17 season total helping the Lady Pioneers pick up the 5-0 victory at Highland. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, October 1, 2004 By Susan Hall It's still somewhat early in the season, but never too early to take about making the playoffs. With about three weeks remaining before the cutoff for the playoffs, teams are positioning themselves to qualify for the post season and divisional title. Both Collingswood and Audubon are amongst the leaders in their division and both were looking to pick up an important win in their Colonial Conference. With the game tied in the second half, the Lady Panthers from Collingswood scored twice to pull away from Audubon by a 4-2 margin. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, September 27, 2004 By Susan Hall Every team has leaders that other players look to when the time comes for that big score is needed to pull out the win against their opponent. On the Lady Eagles field hockey team from West Deptford, Brittany Gibbs, Courtney Stetson and Katie Cipriani have been those players able to find the cage for their team. During their Colonial Conference Liberty Division match-up against Haddonfield, it was bound to be a very close game between two successful programs. With the game tied at one, Gibbs came up big for West Deptford when her shot enter the cage. The Eagles would hold onto to that one goal advantage to pick up the win. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, September 24, 2004 By Susan Hall The Lady Crusaders from Bishop Eustace were hosting an Olympic Conference National Division match-up against their neighboring rivals Camden Catholic. These two teams met in last year’s South Jersey Group 2 semifinals with the Lady Irish advancing to the finals with their 1-0 win. Today, the two squared off with Camden Catholic taking the early one goal advantage. The Crusaders would score three unanswered goals to pick up not only the 3-1 victory, but an all important division win. |
