It's something that the Gloucester field hockey team has gotten use to, which is making it to the South Jersey Group 1 finals. For the past five years, the Lady Lions have been making it a habit showing up in four out of the past five years battling for the title. Gloucester will meet a familiar opponent in the finals all due to the 2-1 win over Salem in the semifinals. The Lions will be taking on St. Joseph for the third year in a row.
The Wildcats from St. Joseph upended Gloucester last year in the finals by one goal. The Lions would get a chance to redeem themselves with a chance of capturing their second title in three years. They jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Janine Hoover’s shot made it inside the cage. Gloucester would add their second goal still in the first half on Amanda Greene’s goal resulted from a penalty stroke. That’s the way the score remained until late in the second half on Salem’s Brit Smith’s goal.
