It was a familiar place the Lady Quakers field hockey team has been for the past four years and that place was a trip to the sectional finals game that they would be hosting. With their 5-1 win over Freehold, Moorestown will go for the Central Jersey Group 3 title against Manasquan. The Quakers would break open a close game in the second half to finally put away any thoughts of being knocked out of this semifinals field hockey game. A one goal lead at half time turned into marginal victory for Moorestown whose defense was excellent and the offense just pure unlucky.
Right out of the gate Moorestown marched right down the field and in good position of scoring the game’s first goal. Amy Lewis scored with just under a minute into the game to give the undefeated Quakers the 1-0 lead. On their very next possession, Moorestown was right back in Freehold’s territory looking to build on their lead. Goalie Caitlin Koch stood tall inside the cage turning away some very good shot on goal attempts by the Quakers. The first half ended with Moorestown offensive pressure setting up scoring opportunities, but the ball just would not fall their way.
When Mimi Katt scored with 21:42 showing on the second half game clock, it would seem as if the scoring flood gates would begin to overflow. It did as Lewis’ second goal of the game pushed Moorestown lead to 3-0 and quickly expanded to 5-0 when Lewis scored her third goal and Jenny Lubin found the back of the cage. As time was winding down, Freehold would avoid the shutout when Meg Beierschmitt scored. Moorestown demonstrated patience in this game as this powerful field hockey team is very capable of putting up double digit numbers on the scoreboard.
