The start of the South Jersey Group 3 softball tournament would begin at Highland for the Lady Tartans were they would compete against their neighboring rival Triton Mustangs. But that's now in the past and a new season was beginning and this time it was Highland who would take charge of this game with their bats. The Tartans would score at least a run in every inning except one during their first round action of the tournament play. Highland's quick start allowed them to defeat Triton by a 10-4 margin.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

By George Brookings

No team enjoys losing, especially when a team has gotten used to winning. The Crusaders from Bishop Eustace had won 13 out of their last 15 games but were trying to snap a current two game losing streak. Jim Yezzo's first inning three run homerun highlighted a six run inning that put the Crusaders ahead of the Mustangs from Triton. Starting pitcher Chris Monaco only allowed one hit and Bishop Eustace would cruise to a 10-0 victory.

Eastern Wins Pitching Duel at Triton

Monday, May 14, 2007

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

It only took one run, but that run that seemed so innocent was the biggest run of the game. During their first at bat, the Lady Vikings from Eastern was able to score a run and jumped out to an early lead against the Lady Mustangs from Triton. As the game progressed through the middle innings, the one run was the main focus by both teams. Starting pitchers Brittany Hicks for Eastern and Britney Yocum for the Mustangs were able to keep their opponents scoring any runs. But that lone run to start the game would hold up and the Vikings would pick up an Olympic Conference win.

Matt Buonadonna scored four goals and Matt Owens and Joe Sauer added two goals each as Black Horse defeated Delran 10-7 in Tier 2 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The first period was all offense and not much defense as the teams combined to score 9 goals. Buonadonna and Sauer both score just over two minutes into the game, and they were looking for more as they went on the power play, but a breakaway goal by Tyler Leary cut the lead to 2-1. Buonadonna got that goal back as he out-hustled the Delran defense to a loose puck and his quick wrist shot made it 3-1.

Anthony DeSimone netted a hat trick and Cory Jackmuff and Steve DeCeasar added two goals as West Deptford defeated Black Horse 9-5 in Tier 2 action at Hollydell. Black Horse skate with only eight players and rallied in the third period, but just ran out of gas. DeSimone scored the only goal of the first period as he hustled on a loose puck in the slot and beat the goalie to the puck and had an empty net to deposit the puck. Joe Sauer tied the game early in the second period for Black Horse scoring the first of his two goals, but West Deptford scored two goals over the next five minutes, one on a blast by JT Flood to take a 3-1 lead. Triton's Early Success Enough against Pennsauken

Tuesday, October 3, 2006

By George Brookings
SJSports Special Correspondent

In the Olympic Conference Patriot Division, every team by now knows that the Renegades from Shawnee's boys' soccer team have started out this season undefeated through nine games. Every game on their schedule, especially against teams from that division, is important to come away with the win and stay above five hundred percentage record. That scenario would set up today’s match up between the Mustangs from Triton hosting Pennsauken. The Mustangs would score three times during the first half and led by two at the break. Pennsauken's efforts would come up short during the second half and Triton would pick up the 4-3 victory and earn an important division win.

Regan Helps Winslow Slide Past Triton

Friday, September 22, 2006

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

With just about two weeks into the season, teams have established which players on their team have the ability to score goals. When that number of players goes beyond three, you can count on your team competing in every game that team steps onto the field. The Eagles from Winslow Township, traveling to Triton to take on the Mustangs, were looking to pick up their fourth win in a row. During the first half of this Olympic Conference Patriot Division boys' soccer game, neither team was able to score. Mike Regan changed that during he second half scoring twice for the Eagles and his success on this day was enough to defeat Triton by a 2-1 margin.

Triton Picks Up the Win against Pennsauken

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

By Joyce Sagerty
SJSports Special Correspondent

Soccer is that game, as all of us soccer fans know, where each member on the field plays an important role in the success of scoring a goal. No one player can do it alone and the entire team must work together according to the game plan and achieve the goal of putting the ball into the net. Both teams, the Lady Indians from Pennsauken traveling to Triton to take on the Mustangs, were unable to get past the defense during the first half. It wasn’t until the second half that Triton was able to score the first and only goal of this game. In their 1-0 victory on the road, goal keeper Amy Ferrara would preserve the shutout in goal for Triton.

Triton Continues to Prepare for Postseason

Tuesday, May 9, 2006

By Joyce Sagerty
SJSports Special Correspondent

With so much focus on qualifying for the upcoming softball tournament, there's a tendency to forget about winning the conference or division title. Triton needed every win during the regular season in order to keep pace with or move ahead of Shawnee in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division. The Mustangs' victory over the Shawnee yesterday plus their 11-1 win over West Deptford has pushed them on top of the race. For West Deptford, the loss has put them in the position of winning their next two games in order to qualify them for the post season.

Shawnee's Defense Keys Win at Triton

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

When you think of the game of softball, most of the time the first thought that comes to mind is the pitcher and how much velocity the ball sails across the plate and into the catcher's glove. What is sometimes forgotten is that when the bat does come in contact with that pitch, the ball will be put in play and the defense must be ready at all times. Starting pitcher Allison Jordan for the Renegades from Shawnee would get plenty of support from the other nine players taking up positions on the field when they traveled to Triton in search of their second consecutive win. In a pitcher's duel, Shawnee would pick up the only run they needed in the first inning and held off Triton by a 3-0 margin in an Olympic Conference Patriot Division game.

With the early start of the tournament play, most of the student body would be in class learning their lessons. But once the school bell sounded at Eastern High School, fans began to arrive with balloons, a cake and a few signs. The players and fans were in anticipation of head coach Jamie McGroarty picking up this 200th victory. Seven minutes into the Lady Vikings first round girl’s soccer game against Triton, Jeanna Favat’s goal gave Eastern a lead they would not relinquish. Four more goals would be scored and Eastern would advance to the next round with their 5-0 victory in front of their home crowd.

Sterling Delivers another Home Victory

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

By Jason Brown

The Knights from Sterling High School were one of those teams that could have won some of those games that they should have early on in the season. When the week started, the boy’s soccer team was just one game over the five hundred percentage mark with three games on their schedule before Friday’s cutoff date. Triton was that team traveling to Sterling participating in a non-league game. The Knights would pick up their third straight victory by posting a 3-0 win over the Mustangs assuring them a spot in the upcoming tournament.

It's All Even with Pennsauken and Triton

Friday, September 30, 2005

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

When looking at the standings for the Olympic Conference Patriot Division, it's not that hard to assume that the team with the winning record should defeat the team with the losing record. On this day, Pennsauken would be looking to end a seven game losing streak while Triton was seeking their fourth victory in the division. The Lady Mustangs would keep the pressure on Pennsauken's goalie Elise Graham who came up with some big saves in this game. Both teams could only score a goal apiece and Triton and Pennsauken would end up in a one all tie.

Triton Has Little Problems against Overbrook

Friday, September 16, 2005

By Joyce Sagerty
SJSports Special Correspondent

The Lady Mustangs from Triton knew it was going to be a tough beginning to their field hockey season. With their first three games being played away from their home field, Triton would be matched up against Shawnee, Cherokee and Pennsauken. Looking for that change of scenery and the comforts of home, the Mustangs would take on the Rams from Overbrook in a non-league game. One goal was more than enough as four different players scored goals for Triton to shutout Overbrook. Keeper Jessica DeChristopher would not allow a goal in this game.
