High School Lacrosse: Saturday, June 9, 2007 By Crystal Parker The Lady Quakers were in perfect position of claiming another state girls' lacrosse title for their high school but the way this game started out, Moorestown would have to earn it. In this year's Tournament of Champions game, the Quakers would have to overcome an early two goal deficit in order to defeat West Morris Mendham. Moorestown's coaches would rally their players during a timeout that soon proved to be the turning point in this state title game. The Quakers would score the next nine consecutive goals to take a commanding lead. Bridget Callahan would score two of her four goal performance during that stretch to lead the way for Moorestown. The Quakers would go on and defeat Mendham by a 16-6 margin and celebrate their eighth straight state title. |
High School Lacrosse: Tuesday, May 29, 2007 By Stephanie Wright This was a game that the Lady Quakers from Moorestown had something to prove to themselves. And what better to do so against another dominating lacrosse team. The top seeded Quakers were hosting the second seeded Lady Renegades from Shawnee in from of a very large crowd. For the first seven minutes of this game, the defenses took center stage keeping the game scoreless. Just like a shaken soda bottle building up pressure, Moorestown's Giulia Giordano goal allowed the rest of the team to get excited knowing that they were able to score first against the Renegades. From that point on, Moorestown kicked their offense into high gear to take a commanding lead. The Quakers defense was the key to their 11-3 win as they kept Shawnee off the scoreboard during the entire first half. |
High School Lacrosse: Tuesday, May 29, 2007 By Clark Washington It was a game that the boys' lacrosse team from Moorestown would not give up no matter what the score was. The second seeded Quakers were hosting the third seeded Green Raiders from Ramapo with a chance to advance to the Group 3 state finals. The Quakers were behind numerous times only to battle back into the game. Trailing by a goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation, John Marcelli's game tying goal sent the fans jumping out of their seats and this game would be decided in a sudden death overtime period. But with 1:47 remaining in overtime, Ramapo's Tom Bosnick picked up a loose ball and scored his second goal of the game ending Moorestown's season. Moorestown's 13-12 loss would end a very exciting season. |
High School Lacrosse: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 By Stephanie Wright The expectations are extremely high this and every season for the Lady Quakers from Moorestown. Their girls' lacrosse team has just about every opponent marking their calendars as one of their toughest games on their schedule. With that much reputation, opposing players push their game to a higher level making it even that much harder for Moorestown to overcome. Good teams know how to settle themselves down and not let their opponents dictate how their offense will perform in unexpected situations. This game against the Lady Blue Devils from Shore Regional was tied twice during the early moments. The Lady Quakers would find their momentum and rebound from a previous loss and post a 14-7 victory at Moorestown High School. |

But Ridgewood's offensive attack picked up during the second half and posted a 14-7 win over the Quakers. |

Pemberton's field hockey program has turned itself back into a winning tradition and they would get a chance to see how far their accomplishments would take them. Traveling to Moorestown and competing in a Central Jersey Group II tournament, the Lady Quakers took a small advantage at the break and used the second half to continue to stay ahead of Pemberton. High School Field Hockey: Friday, September 8, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty With last year's group of leadership now taking on new challenges, a new group has accepted the role of a leader looking to continue on their school’s success. The Lady Quakers from Moorestown were hosting the Falcons from Burlington Township to start off the new field hockey season. Moorestown’s offense, traditionally known to score goals in bunches, took awhile in getting their first score of the season. Just over twelve minutes into this game, the Lady Quakers would score their first of four first half goals. Moorestown’s defense would highlight this game as Kari Tobin and Marissa Toniatti each finished the game with two goals apiece. High School Lacrosse: Saturday, June 10, 2006 By Stephanie Wright Every season is a memorable one, but it's much sweeter when a team claims the division title, the group title and also the state championship...for the seventh time! Moorestown's girls' lacrosse team completely dominated the tournament of champions by outscoring their opponent 107-21 and capturing their seventh straight New Jersey State Title by completely dominating the Blue Devils from Shore Regional. With so many players on the team that have the ability to score from anywhere on the field, a team must be able to match Moorestown's talent both offensively and defensively. Added to his list of presents would be the celebration of scoring eight goals helping the Quakers pick up the 17-8 win over the visiting Patriots from Wayne Hills. That last goal for DeLaney would give him his one hundredth point. The third seeded Quakers will now wait for the winner of the Crawford versus West Morris Central game to see which team they will host in the next round. |
High School Lacrosse: Thursday, May 18, 2006 By Stephanie Wright With their fourth consecutive Burlington County League title already in their possession, the Lady Quakers from Moorestown were at it again taking on another opponent from the South Jersey area. Not taking any team lightly, the Quakers went out on their field ready to take on the Bears from Delran. Too many times it has been witnessed the favor in a game has come away with a loss. The Lady Gators from Seton Keough, located in Maryland, were nationally ranked as the twenty-fifth team found themselves faced with a relentless and defensive minded Quakers team. Seton Keough had won three of their last four games and was looking to pick up their third win in a row. High School Basketball: Tuesday, February 28, 2006 By Jason Brown Every year, teams are trying to improve and build on their accomplishments from the previous season. For Moorestown, that improvement would include a trip to the playoffs and a home game played in front of their hometown fans. The sixth seeded Quakers were the second game of the night as the girl's basketball team would advance to the next round. The boys would be next as they were competing against the eleventh seeded Dragons from Kingsway. High School Basketball: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty There's always a plan on how an opponent can be defeat on the basketball court. The coaching staff works on trying to exploit the weakness of a team in an effort to give their team an edge. When the Lady Quakers from Moorestown traveled to Collingswood to take on the Panthers, both teams would be looking to overcome their opponent's game plan. But one team, the Quakers, used the halftime break to execute a defensive plan that kept Collingswood off the scoreboard during the third quarter. From that point on, Moorestown would rally and defeat the Panthers by a 40-35 margin. |
High School Ice Hockey: Monday, February 13, 2006 By Vincent Lewis During the regular season, Washington Township had defeated Moorestown twice and was looking to pick up their third straight victory during the playoffs of the SJHSIHL. High School Ice Hockey: Monday, February 6, 2006 By Vincent Lewis The second round of the SJHSIHL began with Cherokee 2, fresh off of their victory against Paul VI, traveling to the Igloo to take on Moorestown. Enjoying their first round bye, the home team appeared to have the early momentum as they would take the early one goal lead. Cherokee 2 would respond by not only tying the game but also by taking a one goal lead heading into the third period. Colin Corley tied this game for Moorestown early in the third, but after that goal the two goalies, Stephen Broadt and Max Paluszynski, turned away every shot headed towards the net. High School Basketball: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 By Jerome Michaels Teams are always comparing themselves to their previous year's success or disappointments. But the common goal by players and the coaching staff is how to become better that last year. The effort on the court can determine how pleased or frustrated a coach could be while watching their team performs on the court. In a very competitive boy's basketball game at the Moorestown Invitational, the Quakers would own a two point lead at the break. Westampton Tech would jump out to a lead heading into the final quarter and hold off Moorestown to advance to the finals. Tech would defeat Moorestown 42-38 and give their coach something to smile about. |
Basketball Spotlight: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty With one team already advancing to the finals, host Moorestown would be looking to match up with Holy Cross in order to win the Moorestown Invitational title. Standing in their way would be the Lady Rams from Riverside. These two Burlington County League teams have played on familiar ground in the past, but this was the start of a new undiscovered season for both teams. Moorestown quickly set the tempo for the game dominating both ends of the court. The Lady Quakers were never in any danger of losing this game as they routed Riverside by a 62-26 score. |

High School Field Hockey: Friday, November 11, 2005 By Susan Hall This time it would be Wall looking to dethrone Moorestown's field hockey team from capturing their fifth straight sectional title. With that much success, opposing teams send out their scouts looking for some kind of weakness to exploit in order to gain an edge. It's close to impossible to defend speed, talent and the awesome skill of the game the Lady Quakers possess. Seventh seeded Wall continued to impress by cutting Moorestown's two goal lead in half in the second half. But the home team quickly turned this very competitive game back into their favor. Cassie Grossman had other plans as her third straight goal gave Moorestown the lead for good and capture the victory 4-1. Moorestown will now be looking to add their 16th state title in their school's history. |
High School Soccer: Thursday, November 10, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty Fresh from their win earlier in the week, the Lady Quakers were back on the field this time in the finals looking to defend their South Jersey Group III title. Clearview would be their next opponent trying to take the title away from the Quakers. On this very windy day where Moorestown had the advantage during the first half, Clearview's valiant effort during the second half would come up short. The seventh seeded Lady Pioneers would cut their deficit in half, but Moorestown would hold off Clearview's late run and claim the crown. |
High School Soccer: Monday, November 7, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty Repeating as champions is never an easy task to accomplish, but for the Lady Quakers girl's soccer team they have been enjoying their success so far. Winners of the Burlington County League Freedom Division and the number one seed in this year's South Jersey Group III tournament, Samantha Davis is the team's leading scorer but others have the ability to put the ball into the net. On this day, Brooke Cantwell led the Quakers in scoring against the fourth seeded Lady Falcons from Oakcrest to advance to the finals against Clearview. Moorestown used four different players to score goals as they went on to pick up the 5-1 victory. |
High School Field Hockey: Wednesday, October 5, 2005 By Crystal Parker Each game that the Lady Falcons from Burlington Township’s field hockey team has played has been an uphill battle. But that hasn’t stopped them from putting on the uniform and giving their best effort on the field. It would another steep hill to climb as they would travel to Moorestown High School to take on the Lady Quakers. Moorestown had started out the week with a tough win over Cherokee and were looking to keep up their finesse on the field. Burlington Township would keep the game close in the first half, but the Quakers were able to break this game open in the second half. Moorestown would pick up their eighth victory of the season by defeating the Falcons by a 9-0 margin. |
