High School Volleyball: Saturday, April 2, 2005 By John Daglian The 10th annual Viking invitational Boys Volleyball tournament was held at Eastern High School on Saturday April 2nd. This tournament normally features several of the top schools in the state. This year was no exception as 7 of the top 15 schools attended. The first pool consisted of Eastern, East Brunswick, Cherry Hill East, Hackensack and St. Peters Prep. The second pool contained West Windsor South, Bridgewater, Cherry Hill West, Fairlawn and Wayne Hills. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Tuesday, November 9, 2004 By Bob Heller For the third consecutive year, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Women’s Volleyball player Emily Roth (Dallastown High School/York, PA) was honored as a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference’s All Conference Volleyball Team Roth is one of two repeat selections from the 2003 First Team All-CACC Volleyball Team to be selected in 2004, joining senior Sherry Keech of Georgian Court. Emily was also selected as a second team member as a freshman in 2002. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Tuesday, November 2, 2004 By Bob Heller Philadelphia University's women's volleyball team completed a home-and-home sweep of USP last night as they defeated Devils 3-0 at the Bobby Morgan Arena. The Rams took a hard-fought first game 34-32, easily breezed through the second, winning 30-18, and cruised through the final game winning 30-20. The loss, the Devils sixth in their last nine matches, drops the Devils overall record to 17-13. |
College Volleyball: Monday, November 1, 2004 By Mike Ballard Rutgers-Camden closed its season Oct. 30 by losing to Centenary College, 13-30, 25-30, 30-24 and 17-30, in the first round of the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Oct. 30. The WIAC tournament was held at New Jersey City University. For the Lady Raptors, who close the season at 2-24, freshman Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched 12 kills, nine assists, four service aces, 12 digs and four blocks. Sophomore Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) collected 13 assists, eight kills, two blocks and five digs. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Monday, November 1, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's volleyball team salvaged a split of Saturday's tri-match with a 3-0 win over Immaculata University, assuring themselves of a winning season, their first since 1996. USP took the first game 30-21, the second 32-30 and the third 30-28. In USP's first match of the day, the Devils lost to Richard Stockton College 3-1 (21-30, 18-30, 30-28, 16-30). |
College Volleyball: Monday, October 25, 2004 By Mike Ballard Freshman Julie Grochowski has been a bright spot all season long for the Rutgers-Camden volleyball team, and the freshman continued her fine play last week. In three matches, Grochowski collected 31 kills, 56 digs, five aces and 16 blocks. A two-time New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week (Sept. 20 and 27), she also was a member of the All-Gothic Knight Women's Volleyball Invitational team Oct. 16. She leads the Lady Raptors in kills (241), digs (325) and blocks (61) and is second on the team in aces (45). |
Volleyball Spotlight: Saturday, October 23, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP Women's Volleyball Team snapped a three-game losing streak this afternoon as they defeated Felician College 3-0 for their 15th win of the season. The Devils won the first game 30-12, the second 30-7 and the third 30-12, to move to 15-10 on the season and 13-5 in conference play. USP's 15 wins are the most ever in one season by a Devils volleyball squad, breaking the record of 14 set back in 1993(14-5). |
High School Volleyball: Thursday, October 21, 2004 By Crystal Parker For the first time in quite a while that the two opposing teams really didn't know what to expect before the opening whistle was blown to indicate the start of the girls volleyball match. Both the Lady Villagers from Our Lady of Mercy and Moorestown Quakers have been successful winning their games relatively easy. It didn't take long for the host to establish who the better team was on this day. Moorestown controlled and won the first game 25-19, but the second game was determined by Devon Johnston serving seven straight points to break a thirteen all deadlock. |

The Lightning won game one 30-28, game two 30-18 and game three 30-23. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Monday, October 18, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's volleyball team broke a two-game losing streak, defeating Dominican College 3-2 Saturday at Teikyo Post University; salvaging a split in the tri-match after losing to the host Eagles 3-0 in the opening match. The win against Dominican gives the Devils 14 on the season, equaling the school's single season high set back in 1993. The Devils lost the first and third games to Dominican, 30-27 and 30-16, winning the second 30-21 and taking the final two games of the match 30-20 and 15-10. Against Teikyo Post, USP lost 30-20, 30-26, and 30-20. |
College Volleyball: Monday, October 18, 2004 By Mike Ballard The Lady Raptors suffered through an 0-4 week in which they started by losing in three games against New Jersey Athletic Conference rival William Paterson University and they finished by going 0-3 at the Gothic Knight Invitational at New Jersey City University. In the Gothic Knight Invitational Oct. 16, the Raptors were swept by Mount St. Mary College, 30-10, 30-28 and 30-10, and were swept by host NJCU, 30-13, 30-20 and 30-4. They lost a marathon third match to New York City Tech, 32-30, 29-31, 31-29 and 30-22. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Friday, October 1, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's volleyball team remained perfect in conference play at home with a 3-1 win tonight over visiting Georgian Court College. The Devils took the first two games, 30-23 and 30-26 before dropping game three 30-26. USP rebounded to take game four 30-24 to win the match, despite having a season low attack percentage of 12%. Roth had three of the Devils seven kills in game one. USP trailed 15-14 before a side out tied the game at 15-15. With Wenderoth serving, the Devils then scored four straight points to take a 19-15 lead and later expanded their lead to eight points 27-19 en route to the 30-23 win. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Wednesday, September 29, 2004 By Bob Heller Emily Roth and Lindsey Wenderoth each recorded a double-double with career highs in digs but the USP women's volleyball team fell to area rival Philadelphia University 3-1 last night at Harris Gymnasium on the Rams' campus. USP dropped the first two games 30-25 and 30-23 before winning game three 30-28. The Devils then dropped the final game 30-23. USP is now 9-5 overall. |

This tournament normally features several of the top Group 4 schools in the state. This year the participating schools were Eastern, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Memorial, East Brunswick, Fairlawn, Wayne Hills, Hackensack, West Windsor South and Clifton. The two pools were divided as follows: Pool #1 consisted of Eastern, Wayne Hills, Memorial, Hackensack and West Windsor South. Pool #2 contained Cherry Hill East, East Brunswick, Cherry Hill West, Fairlawn and Clifton. |
