Volleyball Spotlight: Goldey Beacom Upsets Devils Wednesday, October 20, 2004 By Bob Heller The Goldey Beacom women's volleyball team snapped a four game losing streak and knocked off the second place Devils of USP 3-0 at Goldey Beacom's MBNA Hall last night. The Lightning won game one 30-28, game two 30-18 and game three 30-23. Emily Roth (Jr., Dallastown HS/York, PA) led USP with 17 kills and 17 digs while Michelle Hogga (So., St. Pius X HS/Linfield, PA) had six kills and nine digs. Lindsey Wenderoth (Fr., Owings Mills HS/Owings Mills, MD) and Abigail Hughey (Fr., Wilmington Charter/Newark, DE) added 16 and 10 digs respectively while Raeann Petruccelli(So., The Gunnery, New Milford, CT) had 23 assists. The Devils had their best game in the opening game of the match, getting 15 kills. the game had 10 ties and five lead changes before the Devils fell 30-28. From there, momentum swung in favor of the host Lightning as they captured the final two games of the match, sending the Devils to their third defeat in their last four matches. USP is now 14-8 overall and 12-3 in conference play. Defending CACC Champion Wilmington College is up next for the Devils. The match will be at Wilmington College on Thursday, October 21, 2004. |
