Volleyball Spotlight: Devils Salvage a Split at Teikyo Post Monday, October 18, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's volleyball team broke a two-game losing streak, defeating Dominican College 3-2 Saturday at Teikyo Post University; salvaging a split in the tri-match after losing to the host Eagles 3-0 in the opening match. The win against Dominican gives the Devils 14 on the season, equaling the school's single season high set back in 1993. The Devils lost the first and third games to Dominican, 30-27 and 30-16, winning the second 30-21 and taking the final two games of the match 30-20 and 15-10. Against Teikyo Post, USP lost 30-20, 30-26, and 30-20. Emily Roth (Jr., Dallastown HS/York, PA) had 18 kills and 15 digs against the Chargers while Lindsey Wenderoth (Fr., Owings Mills HS/Owings Mills, MD) added 14 kills and a team high 18 digs. Abigail Hughey (Fr., Wilmington Charter/Newark, DE) added 10 kills while Michelle Hogga (So., St. Pius X HS/Linfield, PA) and Gina Mooney (Sr., Jim Thorpe HS/Allentown, PA) had 14 and 12 digs respectively. Raeann Petruccelli(So., The Gunnery, New Milford, CT) had 43 assists setting for the Devils offense. In the opener against Teikyo Post, the Devils were outhit 27.3% (45-10-128)to 11.8% (24-12-102). Hogga paced the Devils with six kills and no errors for an attack percentage of 42.9% (6-0-14). Wenderoth and Roth added 13 and 15 digs respectively. USP is now 14-7 on the season and 12-2 in CACC games. Next up for the Devils is a CACC matchup at Goldey Beacom College on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. |
