Fire Chief Joe Jackson, Jr. organized the game featuring the West Berlin Fire Company against a contingent from the Flyers and Phantom hockey teams. |
South Jersey Softball: PrimeTime League Playoffs: Warwick Tavern Sweeps Weyman Photography to Win Championship Sunday, August 4, 2002 By Art Redd The outcome from the Sunday morning Prime Time Division A men's softball championship game was not the results that many expected. But don't tell that to the players from Warwick Tavern as they battled the previously undefeated team from Weyman Photography/Post 56. After winning the first game of a best of three series convincingly, Warwick Tavern won game two by the score of 28-9 to claim the title. Post 56 bats were silent on this day as the ended their 28 game winning streak. |
South Jersey Softball: PrimeTime League Playoffs: Weyman's/Post 56 Defeats Camden PBA to Advance Warwick Tavern Defeats Defending Champs Sunday, July 28, 2002 By Art Redd The playoffs for the PrimeTime softball league was already in its semi-final round with four teams still in the hunt for their quest of capturing the 2002 Championship title. One semi-final game featured Camden PBA taking on the team from Weyman Photography/Post 56 at the Mitchell's/East Clementon field. The other game held at Sterling High School watched McDonnell's Bar & Grille taking on Warwick Tavern. Post 56 breezed through their way to the finals. Warwick Tavern won their series after losing the first game. So that means that this Sunday's championship game will feature Warwick Tavern and Weyman Photography/Post 56. |
South Jersey Softball: Primetime League Update: Weyman's/Post 56 Sunday, June 23, 2002 By Tina Schaefer The Post 56 is still undefeated after their two wins today over Garden State Brick, now holding a record of 16-0. The Post 56 taking game one 8-7 over Garden State with Billy Tighe 4-4, Jamaal Herron 3-4, and Ned Kerr 4-4 leading the attack. Ned Kerr pitched the victory for the winners. Game two Post - 15 and Garden State - 5 with Charlie Lawton, Brian Greene, Fred Simaraglio and Llyod Knowles combined to go 14 for 16 with 3 homeruns. Next game is scheduled for Sunday, June 30 at 10am at Mitchell's/East Clementon against Warwick Tavern. |
High School Softball: Washington Township Wins State Group 4 Championship Saturday, June 8, 2002 By Vincent Lewis Kristy Pron knew it was only a matter of time before the Minutemaids from Washington Township would come through for her. Pron did her job on the mound as she kept West Milford from scoring any runs in this state Group 4 softball championship game played at Toms River East. Washington Township's bats came alive in the third inning to give Pron than enough runs to win this game. Township would score seven unanswered runs as the defense shutout West Milford to capture the title game. |
High School Softball: The 2002 South Jersey Group 2 State Champs are the Ladies from Northern Burlington Saturday, June 8, 2002 By Crystal Parker It was a play that will be remembered by all attending the South Jersey Group 2 State championship game against Northern Burlington and Pompton Lakes played at Toms River North. All the Greyhounds needed was one more out in the last inning to be recognized as the State champions. With a runner in scoring position and two outs, Greyhounds' centerfielder Dusty Archer and right fielder Jessica Gibbs were charging on a fly ball in the outfield. Not to be denied, Archer came up with the catch for not only the third out of the inning but also giving Northern Burlington their first ever state championship with a 1-0 victory over Pompton Lakes. |
High School Softball: Tobin Shuts Down Bishop Eustace Giving Lady Rams the Title Tuesday, June 4, 2002 By Vincent Lewis Gloucester Catholic has been in this situation before, time after time. Coach Julie McHenry has watched this hungry team take advantage of every opportunity her team was given to them. Bishop Eustace ran into a team who did whatever was necessary to achieve their goal. Brianne Tobin struck out eight batters and allowed the defense to complete the Rams 4-0 shutout against the Lady Crusaders and take home the South Jersey Parochial B title. |
High School Softball: Pennsville Captures the South Jersey Group 1 Title Thursday, May 30, 2002 By Crystal Parker The fans had to be thankful for the nice weather they were finally enjoying this week. The warm temperatures and sunny skies made it easy to watch the extra inning championship game played at Eastern High School. For eight entertaining innings, Pennsville's Jamie Carlson and Haddon Heights' Michelle Schlichtig were masterful on the mound for their teams keeping a scoreless game until the bottom of the eighth inning. Casey Bradford would deliver a two out triple scoring Lauren Brewster to take home the championship title. |
High School Softball: Extra Innings Win Gives Northern Burlington the Group 2 Title Thursday, May 30, 2002 By Vincent Lewis It was a nerve-racking game that it was a shame that one of these teams had to lose. The Lady Greyhounds from Northern Burlington were battling the Lady Panthers from Point Pleasant Boro in the South Jersey Group 2 championship game played at Cherry Hill West High School. The Panthers would score a run in the bottom of the seventh to send this game into extra innings. Starting pitcher Kerry Lee not only drove in the winning run and picked up the win for Point Pleasant Boro, but she also help her team capture the South Jersey Group 2 title with a 3-2 win. |
High School Softball: Burlington Township Stuns Number One Seeded Audubon Thursday, May 23, 2002 By Art Redd When Burlington Township defeated the ninth seeded Kingsway in the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs, all they could talk about was traveling to Audubon and take on the number one seeded Lady Green Wave. With an impressive 21-1 overall record, Audubon has proved to be seeded as the number one team in their group. But today would the Lady Falcons day to be in the spotlight as they upset Audubon in nine innings by a 5-2 margin. Vanessa Moczulski picked up the win for Burlington Township as she gave up just one hit and recorded six strikeouts. |
High School Softball: Haddon Township Wins 14 Inning Battle Against Cinnaminson Tuesday, May 21, 2002 By Art Redd For fourteen straight innings, the Pirates from Cinnaminson battled the Lady Hawks from Haddon Township in the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs. After watching batter after batter approach the plate in extra innings, both teams were eager to get that one base runner in scoring position to end this scoreless game. Finally in the bottom of the 14th inning, Ashley Olt scored from second base when Alialen Fallon lined to single up the middle to send the Lady Hawks to the next round of the playoffs. |
High School Softball: Haddon Heights Pitch Their Way Past Pitman Tuesday, May 21, 2002 By Crystal Parker The Pitman Lady Panthers traveled to Haddon Heights in search of a road victory against the every so tough Michele Schichtig in the first round of the South Jersey Group 1 playoffs. The Panthers also had Schmidt on the mound matching her opponent. The defense for both teams was solid until the fifth inning. Haddon Heights scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to win this game by a 5-1 margin. |

The Post 56 taking game one 19-4 over All Star Trophies with Ned Kerr 4-4 (4 RBI), Jamal Heron 3-4 (3 RBI), Joe Jetson 3-4 (3 RBI), and Lloyd Knowles 3-4. Game two Post - 16 and All Star Trophies - 11 with Billy Tighe 4-5 (3 RBI) Scott Crossland 4-4 (4 RBI), Challie Bowen 4-4 and John Yezzi 3-4 (5 RBI). Next game is scheduled for Sunday, June 2 at 10am at Mitchell's/East Clementon. The Post 56 vs. McDonnell's Bar and Grill, last season's defending champs. |
High School Softball: Camden Catholic Wins Pitching Match Over Bishop Eustace Wednesday, May 15, 2002 By Jerome Michaels After a seven full innings and eight total hits in this game, Camden Catholic and Bishop Eustace played an entertaining pitching duel loaded with great defensive plays. Irish's Anna Dahl kept Bishop Eustace off guard the entire game and her opponent Jen Scott also pitched a good game. Camden Catholic would finally push across the only run needed to finally defeat the Lady Crusaders. |
High School Softball: Homerun Paces Lenape Past Paul VI Tuesday, May 14, 2002 By Crystal Parker Lenape went right to work early in their game against Paul VI. Knowing that the dangerous Lauren Nicholson was on the minds of most batters, Lenape used a big hit from Gina Mignogna. The Lady Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Mignogna's home run put them ahead for good. Lenape recorded a 3-1 victory over Paul VI with Dana Bryson picking up the win. |
South Jersey Softball: PrimeTime Update: Weyman's/Post 56 Sunday, May 12, 2002 By Tina Schaefer After winning today against Harris Business, the Post 56 is now 6-0 in the fourth week of the season. The Post 56 took game 1 with Billy Tighe, Joe Voight, Joe Loomis, Jamaal Herron combining to go 15 for 16 with 5 home runs. Final score for the first game was Post 56 - 26 and Harris Business - 6. Game 2 Post 56 - 25 and Harris Business - 21 with Dickie Bachman, Scott Crossland, Brian Greene, and Mike Horn combining to go 14 for 15 with 3 home runs. Horn's hits were both with 2 outs. Come out next Sunday at 10am to watch the Post 56 vs. All Star Trophies at Mitchell's Field, East Clementon. |
High School Softball: Home Team Captures the Highland Classic Softball Tournament Saturday, May 11, 2002 By Crystal Parker Paul VI, Highland, Delsea and Gateway participated in the Highland Softball Classic Tournament Saturday morning. This tournament featured two teams who have secured their playoff position, Highland and Paul VI. The Lady Eagles would be considered the favorite in this tournament, but it would be the host team taking the championship. The Lady Tartans defeated Paul VI 3-2 to win their own softball tournament. |
High School Softball: Nicholson Strikes Out 23 as Paul VI Outlasts Camden Catholic Monday, May 6, 2002 By Art Redd It was a game that lasted 14 innings that both starting pitchers went the distance looking for that elusive run. Camden Catholic's Anna Dahl and Paul VI's Lauren Nicholson battled each other for just under 3 hours. After Camden Catholic tied this game in the bottom to the seventh inning, the Irish watched Paul VI score one run in the top of the fourteenth inning to finally win this game. Michelle Bochanski circled the bases in the inning to advance Paul VI to a 3-2 win over Camden Catholic. |
South Jersey Softball: McDonnell's Bar & Grille/BCI Sunday, May 5, 2002 By Tina Schaefer On Sunday, the Defending Champs celebrate their victory over Eden's Bar as well as Cinco De Mayo back at McDonnell's Bar & Grille with friends. The 4-0 team is in its fifth year with the Primetime League, Division A and is currently holding the Championship Title for the past two seasons. This year's coaches Shawn Whelan and Andy "The Dog" Scott say they are ready to take it all this season too. |
High School Softball: Two Last Inning Runs Pushes Audubon Past Haddonfield Monday, April 29, 2002 By Crystal Parker Both of these starting pitchers were on top of their game in this Colonial Conference battle between the Lady Bulldawgs from Haddonfield and the Green Wave from Audubon. Candace O'Donnell has been one of the reasons to Audubon's success this season. O'Donnell picked up her thirteen win pitching this season with a 2-1 victory over Haddonfield. Kelsi Fanelli knocked in the tying run and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. |
High School Softball: Washington Township Breezes By Pennsauken Monday, April 29, 2002 By Vincent Lewis It was a game that seemed to be played in late October. The Minutemaids from Washington Township were hosting Pennsauken in a battle of finding a way to keep warm on the softball field. These two teams managed to play ball despite all of the cold limbs. The Lady Indians' bats were as frigate as the temperatures as Washington Township recorded a 4-0 victory in an Olympic Conference game. |
High School Softball: Tenth Inning Explosion Keeps Eagles In First Place Wednesday, April 24, 2002 By Art Redd The extra innings shouldn't have surprised anyone when you have two pitchers with good control on the mound. Freshman Randi Cifelli has been excellent this season pitching for Highland. Also having a successful start was the veteran Alexis Switenko from Winslow Township (6-2, 4-0). This low scoring game lasted until the tenth inning when Winslow Township scored 6 runs to defeat their Patriot Division opponent 8-2. Switenko recorded the win pitching every inning, striking out 14 and not allowing an earned run. |

Community College Tuesday, April 23, 2002 By Jerome Michaels The college ranks took center stage on this day as Salem traveled to Camden Community College to compete in women's softball. This collegiate game featured two of the teams from the Region 19 conference. It was Starlene Morgan's production at the plate and Danielle Small's pitching that highlighted this game. Camden County's fourth inning burst sealed their 7-2 victory over Salem County. |

Post 56/Weyman Photography Team Preview Sunday, April 21, 2002 By Tina Schaefer Way to start the season for the American Legion Post 56/Weyman Photography 2002 Men's Softball team winning both games today against American. This is the 3rd year for the men in the Prime Time League, Division A. Bob Labinski and Joe Krauss members of the Post will be coaching this year's team. Their home field is located at the new Lindenwold High School and games are played on Sundays. |
High School Softball: Audubon Wins Battle of the Conferences Tournament Saturday, April 20, 2002 By Crystal Parker There were only four teams remaining in this tournament, and each team had the confidence that they would be the winner. When Overbrook, Audubon, Rancocas Valley and Holy Cross took the field Saturday morning at Overbrook Senior High, these girls had their sites on making it to the championship if they played a complete game. After Rancocas Valley and Overbrook were eliminated in the semi-finals in extra innings, Audubon's Candace O'Donnell led a team effort in capturing a 9-1 victory over Holy Cross. |
High School Softball: Overbrook's Battle of the Conferences Completes First Weekend Saturday, April 13, 2002 By Crystal Parker Sixteen teams competed on Saturday in the Overbrook Softball Tournament "Battle of the Conferences" at Overbrook High School. This will be the sixth year this tournament has been held with teams from the Olympic, Cape Atlantic, Burlington Township, Colonial, Tri-County and Greater Middlesex Conferences. The Rancocas Valley, Holy Cross, Audubon and Overbrook it to the semi-finals scheduled for next Saturday. |
