Kristy Pron knew it was only a matter of time before the Minutemaids from Washington Township would come through for her. Pron did her job on the mound as she kept West Milford from scoring any runs in this state Group 4 softball championship game played at Toms River East. Washington Township's bats came alive in the third inning to give Pron than enough runs to win this game. Township would score seven unanswered runs as the defense shutout West Milford to capture the title game.
If you looked at this team according to the brackets, this team wasn't supposed to be in this game. But don't tell that to a determined bunch of ladies who believed that they could win it all...and they did. During the South Jersey group playoffs, Township did not score more than two runs in a game through the first 3 rounds and won each game. When it came down for the finals against Rancocas Valley, they defeated the Red Devils scoring 4 runs to advance to today's game.
It was a scoreless tie until the bottom of the third inning. After scoring an unearned run, Township's Kristen McGuire came through with a two run double to extend their lead to 3-0. She was not stranded on second base as Jackie Courant brought her home with an RBI single and Township jumped out to a 4-0. Pron would help herself out adding a run in the fifth inning. Gina D'Amico double and moved to third on McGuire's third hit of the game. Pron hit a sacrifice fly to score D'Amico and Township had more than enough runs to bring home the trophy for the Lady Minutemaids.
