It was a nerve-racking game that it was a shame that one of these teams had to lose. The Lady Greyhounds from Northern Burlington were battling the Lady Panthers from Point Pleasant Boro in the South Jersey Group 2 championship game played at Cherry Hill West High School. The Panthers would score a run in the bottom of the seventh to send this game into extra innings. Starting pitcher Kerry Lee not only drove in the winning run and picked up the win for Point Pleasant Boro, but she also help her team capture the South Jersey Group 2 title with a 3-2 win.
Game after game, we have been enjoying softball being played in the southern part of the garden state. When it comes down to the final two teams in their playoff brackets, you know it was worth all the hard work the coaches and players have put into this sports. The Greyhounds defeated Hammonton, Haddonfield and Burlington Township to make it to the finals. Point Pleasant Boro got past Delran, Manchester Township and Buena to advance.
Northern Burlington jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off of starting pitcher Erin Boyle. The starting pitchers took over this game not giving up any runs until the sixth inning. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. The Panthers would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. Dana DelMauro was responsible for sending this game into extra innings with her two out run batted in hit. But that's when Lee delivered with her bat and drilled an RBI double to capture the title.
