Sixteen teams competed on Saturday in the Overbrook Softball Tournament "Battle of the Conferences" at Overbrook High School. This will be the sixth year this tournament has been held with teams from the Olympic, Cape Atlantic, Burlington Township, Colonial, Tri-County and Greater Middlesex Conferences. Rancocas Valley, Holy Cross, Audubon and Overbrook were the teams that made it to the semi-finals scheduled for next Saturday.
As this day began early Saturday morning, the agenda of the tournament was to play at least two game which meant the day successfully. First up were the 9:00AM games that included Lenape going up against Vineland, Triton versus Rancocas Valley and Audubon playing Delran. Vineland, Rancocas Valley and Audubon all advanced to the next round, but would have to wait several hours before their next game. Vineland defeated Lenape by a close score of 2-0 to meet Rancocas Valley who defeated Triton 5 to 3. Audubon had an easy way with Delran by winning 10-0.
The next games on tap scheduled for 11:00AM were Moorestown versus St. Joseph, Holy Cross versus Eastern and Overbrook against Egg Harbor. St. Joseph's victory earned them the right to play Audubon in the quarterfinals game. Overbrook and Holy Cross, both winners of their games, would have to wait for the 1:00PM games to be completed. Kingsway victory over Cinnaminson would earn them the right to face Overbrook while Winslow Township 2-1 edge over Bishop Ahr allowed them to play Holy Cross.
This single game elimination tournament was finalized when Rancocas Valley advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over Vineland. Holy Cross will meet the Red Devils from Rancocas Valley in the semi-finals next week with their 2-0 win over Winslow Township. Audubon posted a 4-0 win against St. Joseph and the Green Wave will face Overbrook as the Rams got past Kingsway by a score of 7-1.
