High School Lacrosse: Monday, April 23, 2007 By Stephanie Wright When two teams who have a history of never giving up no matter what the score is come together, you can expect a very competitive game. This was definitely true when the Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveled to Delran to take on the undefeated Bears in a Burlington County League girls' lacrosse game. Cinnaminson would jump out to an early two goal lead only to see Delran battle right back. During this entire game, the Pirates would have leads only to see Delran's determination pay off. Lauren Wojcik would be at the right place at the right time when she scored the winning goal just 57 seconds into the overtime session. Cinnaminson would finally end this thrilling match-up by posting an 11-10 victory. |
High School Ice Hockey: Monday, January 8, 2007 By Mike Costantino Matt Buonadonna scored four goals and Matt Owens and Joe Sauer added two goals each as Black Horse defeated Delran 10-7 in Tier 2 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The first period was all offense and not much defense as the teams combined to score 9 goals. Buonadonna and Sauer both score just over two minutes into the game, and they were looking for more as they went on the power play, but a breakaway goal by Tyler Leary cut the lead to 2-1. Buonadonna got that goal back as he out-hustled the Delran defense to a loose puck and his quick wrist shot made it 3-1. |
High School Soccer: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 By Jerome Michaels You've heard it before, but it never gets old. The playoff is a new season where every team starts out with no wins and no losses. The eleventh seeded Gators from Gateway knew they had to play well in order to come away with a win at Delran. Joe Kane put a damper on Gateway's hopes as he scored a minute and fifty seconds into this game. The Gators would battle back but the sixth seeded Bears continued to stay one step ahead of their opponent by keeping the pressure on the defense. Delran would jump ahead during the second half for good and with this game by a 4-2 margin. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 30, 2006 By Clark Washington There's a lot that could be said about a team who was trailing by twenty-two points before the halftime intermission even begins. The way that the Delran Bears began their homecoming game, everything was going right for the home team. This was a battle between two undefeated teams and Bishop Eustace appeared to be headed for their first loss of the season. But during the second half, the Crusaders began to chip away at their deficit and trailed by six points with less than three minutes remaining in the game. With only about a minute remaining in this thrilling game, quarterback Jimmy Rafferty connected with Nick DeNoble on a post pattern from 62-yards out giving Bishop Eustace the come-from-behind victory. With their 29-28 victory, the Crusaders improved their record to 4-0 midway through the season. |
High School Soccer: Monday, September 11, 2006 By Jerome Michaels A few days ago, Delran's boys' soccer team opened up their season with a lost to Burlington Township and was looking to even up their record against Maple Shade Wildcats. The beginning of their schedule has them playing their first four games at home and the start of their game against the Wildcats, it appeared safe that they would get their first win. Two first half goals by Delran allowed the Bears to start the second half with the lead. But Maple Shade rallied to tie the game and it appeared as if overtime was in the near future. Halil Aydin was able to put the ball in the net with less than a minute and a half remaining in the game giving Delran the 3-2 victory. |
High School Lacrosse: Thursday, May 18, 2006 By Stephanie Wright With their fourth consecutive Burlington County League title already in their possession, the Lady Quakers from Moorestown were at it again taking on another opponent from the South Jersey area. Not taking any team lightly, the Quakers went out on their field ready to take on the Bears from Delran. Too many times it has been witnessed the favor in a game has come away with a loss. The Bears has several players such as Lindsay Davenport, Kelly Caracci and Kate Simmons who have demonstrated their ability of scoring goals. But on this day, Moorestown completely dominated the game from start to finish. The Quakers collectively defeated Delran in a game were fifteen different players scored at least a goal. The Quakers would post their fifth win in a row with their 20-2 victory. |
High School Ice Hockey: Friday, February 17, 2006 By Vincent Lewis West Deptford and Delran took the ice Friday night at the Hollydell Ice Arena participating in a Tier II playoff game. Both of these teams were bounced out of the winner's bracket and were looking for another chance to advance through the loser's bracket. After a slow start where only one goal was scored, Cory Jackmuff took matters in his own hands. After scoring three of the four goals netted during the second period, Jackmuff's success help West Deptford posted an 8-2 victory over Delran. |
High School Basketball: Monday, February 13, 2006 By Jerome Michaels The Jaguars from Medford Tech traveled to Delran to take on the Bears in a Burlington County Conference basketball game. Both of these teams were looking for a way to put an end to their losing streak. The Jaguars would jump out to a double digit lead through the first half only to watch Delran cut their deficit to two points early in the third quarter. But Medford Tech would respond by matching Delran's intensity and defeat the Bears by a 67-53 score. |
High School Soccer: Friday, November 11, 2005 By Clark Washington On paper, the Delran Bears had the slight edge heading into this game. Even with the absence of one of their top scorer on the team, Delran was looking to pick up their third straight sectional title in front of their home crowd. Luckily this game is decided by the players on the field and the coaching staff that puts their players in the right situations. After the second seeded Bulldogs from Haddonfield found themselves trailing in this game, they would begin to match Delran’s intensity and not only tie this game but also take the lead early in the second half. This physically played game swung in Haddonfield’s favor and the Bulldogs would be able to hold off the charging Bears by a 2-1 margin. |
High School Soccer: Tuesday, November 8, 2005 By Vincent Lewis You hear it most of the time and it’s the reason most players work so hard to avoid it. When a game has to be decided by penalty kicks, it takes away from the defense and the goal keeper’s performance they had for two halves. Unfortunately it’s the only way to determine a winner of a game when it can’t be decided during the regulation and overtime periods. After Delran and Cinnaminson could not come up with the game winning kick during regulation, it was time for the shoot out session to begin. With the number one seeded Bears from Delran down 3-1 in penalty kicks to the Pirates, the home team would score the next four times to go ahead and defeat Cinnaminson and advance to the finals. |
High School Soccer: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 By Jerome Michaels It was a perfect day to hang outdoors and enjoy the wonderful weather we were having in the month of October. There were quite a few people doing just that in Delran watching two very closely matched boy's soccer teams compete in a Burlington County League game. The Bears from Delran were hosting Rancocas Valley and would play out to be an important game for both teams. After the first half had ended in a scoreless tie, Delran would score the only goal of the game when leading scorer Tommy Orr deposited the ball into the net. With the home crowd still buzzing with jubilance, Orr would suffer a leg injured that kept him out of the game. Delran would remain undefeated winning its eleventh game of the season. |
High School Basketball: Friday, January 14, 2005 By Susan Hall Every division has their division rivalries that teams look forward to playing during the regular season. For most of the time, those games give the winning teams a measuring stick to who might be the champs at the end of the season. Cinnaminson and Delran's girls' basketball teams were undefeated in the Burlington County League Patriot Division and tonight, someone would pick up their first loss. Hosting Delran on their home court, Cinnaminson's defense held the Bears to just five first quarter points. The Pirates behind Kerrie Pokusa's 18 points expanded on the early lead and rolled on for the 61-42 victory over Delran. |
