Every division has their division rivalries that teams look forward to playing during the regular season. For most of the time, those games give the winning teams a measuring stick to who might be the champs at the end of the season. Cinnaminson and Delran’s girls’ basketball teams were undefeated in the Burlington County League Patriot Division and tonight, someone would pick up their first loss. Hosting Delran on their home court, Cinnaminson’s defense held the Bears to just five first quarter points. The Pirates behind Kerrie Pokusa’s 18 points expanded on the early lead and rolled on for the 61-42 victory over Delran.
Both teams started out this game looking to establish their game plan which consisted of getting the ball inside and contesting every shot on defense. The Pirates were able to execute that game plan plus get to their free throw line. After building an eight point lead, the second quarter started out with Cinnaminson building on that lead. But just like every good team, no lead is safe. The Bears pulled within three points midway through the second quarter, but Cinnaminson had an answer of their own to lead at the half 30-17.
With their double digit lead, Cinnaminson was able to get more players involved on both sides of the court. The Pirates were able to maintain their lead the rest of the way. Kerrie Pokusa finished with a game high 18 points while Gina Catanzaritti added 12 points for Cinnaminson. Delran was lead by Brittany Atzert’s team high 12 points.
