Camden Catholic's Early Success Enough to Advance Thursday, May 25, 2006 By Jerome Michaels Baseball is that game where the entire team must come together collectively in order to walk off the field at the end of a game with the win. So far, and especially when it counts, the Fight Irish from Camden Catholic has been winning their games leading up to the South Jersey Non-Public Group A baseball tournament. Looking to put it all together during the post season, Camden Catholic jumped out to an early lead against ninth seeded St. Joseph Metuchen who had an agenda of their own. Watching their opponent rally to pull within a run, Camden Catholic would maintain their composure and advance to the next round with their 9-7 victory. Their reward would be a match up with the number one seeded Christian Brothers next week. |

East Delivers another Exciting Finish against Lenape Thursday, May 25, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty It's that scenario that's played out in an athlete's mind about scoring that last second shot to win a game. That particular scene was set in the opening round of the South Jersey Group B girl's lacrosse game played at Lenape. Fifth seeded Cherry Hill East was trailing the fourth seeded Lady Indians by a single goal with less than thirty seconds remaining in regulation. Kelly Dallas came through with the game tying goal for the Lady Cougars and this game appeared to be headed for overtime. But that's when Diana Shalkowski received the ball off of the draw and rushed down field and deposited the game winning goal. Cherry Hill East would advance to the next round with their 10-9 victory over Lenape. |

Q&A with Flyers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock Thursday, May 25, 2006 By Jorge Palmieri I don't think anybody in this organization has been part of something like that. Looking back it became too much of the focus about who was out with an injury and not about who was playing. It was emotionally draining on everybody in the organization. But being here at the Skate Zone and watching these players' improvement is just so dramatic. To see a player walk in the next day after surgery and then see the same player two weeks later after rehabbing is really dramatic. There is a real opportunity here for a lot of the nagging injuries to get completely healed, especially in the groin and hamstring area. |

Strong Pitching From Blackburn as Rams Win in Extra Innings Wednesday, May 24, 2006 By Jerome Michaels If it wasn't for that uncharacteristic loss during the Diamond Classic, Gloucester Catholic wouldn't have to prove themselves again that they were the same team that won some many games. In the South Jersey Non-Public B bracket, the second seeded Rams were hosting Mater Dei who was the seventh seed. In a pitcher's duel that advanced to extra innings, starting pitcher Matt Blackburn knew he had to continue pitching well after giving up late in the game. Still on the mound after keeping Mater Dei off the scoreboard during their top half of the eighth inning, Gloucester Catholic was able to score the winning run off of an error. The Rams 3-2 victory now advances them to the semi-finals. |

Haddon Township Defeats Cinnaminson Tuesday, May 23, 2006 By Susan Hall The first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball tournament began with the eleventh seeded Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveling to Haddon Township to compete against the sixth seeded Lady Hawks. Both of these teams have experience advancing to the next round and were looking to continue with that success. Colleen O'Riordan was in complete control of her pitches as Haddon Township limited the Pirates' scoring chances. A four run fourth inning was more than enough support for the Hawks' starting pitcher and Haddon Township would be that team moving on to the next round. With their 6-0 victory, the Lady Hawks will now face a familiar opponent as they will travel to Audubon. |

Moorestown's DeLaney Has His Way in Group 2 Action Tuesday, May 23, 2006 By Clark Washington What do you expect? You are supposed to get what you wish for on your birthday, right? Senior Sean DeLaney could hear over the public announcer system that the "birthday boy" just scored another goal for Moorestown in the opening round of the boys' lacrosse Group 2 tournament. Added to his list of presents would be the celebration of scoring eight goals helping the Quakers pick up the 17-8 win over the visiting Patriots from Wayne Hills. That last goal for DeLaney would give him his one hundredth point. The third seeded Quakers will now wait for the winner of the Crawford versus West Morris Central game to see which team they will host in the next round. |

Audubon Advances With Win Against Sterling Monday, May 22, 2006 By Jerome Michaels There's always that expectation that the seeding designated for a team should determine the outcome of a game. The higher seed, in this case Audubon hosting Sterling, is the favorite to come away with the victory. Well the sixth seeded Green Wave from Audubon didn't disappoint the predictions when they took on the Silver Knights from Sterling who was the eleventh seed in the South Jersey Group 2 bracket. Three key hits during the bottom of the second inning proved to be the difference in this game as Audubon advanced to the next round with their 4-1 victory. Next up for Audubon would be a trip to third seeded Woodstown. |

When Rutgers-Camden softball coach Carl Taylor posed his 2006 Scarlet Raptors for their team picture, he used the school’s Hall of Fame wall as a backdrop and requested the slogan “A Team to Remember” be inserted under that photo on the media guide cover. Taylor had no idea how prophetic he would be. |
