The first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball tournament began with the eleventh seeded Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveling to Haddon Township to compete against the sixth seeded Lady Hawks. Both of these teams have experience advancing to the next round and were looking to continue with that success. Colleen O’Riordan was in complete control of her pitches as Haddon Township limited the Pirates’ scoring chances. A four run fourth inning was more than enough support for the Hawks’ starting pitcher and Haddon Township would be that team moving on to the next round. With their 6-0 victory, the Lady Hawks will now face a familiar opponent as they will travel to Audubon.
Taking a look back on last year’s quest for the title, Haddon Township had advanced to the next round but loss to Audubon who was the number one seed. In this year’s bracket, the reward again for advancing would be another chance at defeating the number three seed. Both times during the regular season the Hawks faced Audubon and loss. With their performance in today’s game where an early run helped Haddon Township build on their confidence as a team, especially the way O’Riordan was pitching. The Hawks made all the right plays on the field and were looking to continue their success.
