South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 By Dan Loney (New Britain, CT)- Bronson Sardinha had three hits and a run, while Shelley Duncan homered twice and drove in four runs, as the Thunder beat New Britain, 5-1, on Wednesday night. Trenton has now won 10 of their last 13 games. New Britain (20-22) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning off Thunder starter Tyler Clippard. Alex Romero launched a solo homer for the only run off Clippard (2-6) in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. But Trenton came back to tie the game in the 4th Inning with a solo homer by 1B Shelley Duncan off New Britain starter Glen Perkins. In the 6th Inning, Sardinha singled off Perkins to start the innings. After a walk to DH Randy Ruiz, Duncan slammed his second homer of the night for a 4-1 lead. Perkins (1-4) allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out one. Trenton (21-24) added an insurance run in the 7th Inning as LF Vince Faison doubled and later scored on a Tommy Rojas sacrifice fly. T.J. Beam came in after Clippard and got the final out of the 6th Inning with the bases loaded. He went on to work 3 1/3 innings of relief for his 2nd save, allowing just a run in the 9th Inning. The series concludes on Thursday at 10:35 AM. Jeff Karstens (0-0, 1.98) starts for the Thunder against the Rock Cats' Nick Blackburn (3-4, 5.04). Thunder Notes - Sardinha had was 3-for-3 against New Britain's starter Glen Perkins. Sardinha is now 6-for-7 against Perkins in his career. - The run allowed by T.J. Beam in the 9th Inning was his first earned run allowed in his last 35 1/3 innings.
