KiXX defender Glenn Carbonara scored the game-winning goal at 4:01 in overtime, on an assist from goalkeeper Peter Pappas. Pappas (3-1) earned the victory and recorded nine saves, while David Doyle (0-1) took the loss for Dallas, stopping 11 shots on goal. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 19, 2002 By Jerome Michaels Before the season even started, there was a game that on paper resembled the makings of two high school football teams playing for their version of a superbowl. High expectations were placed on both the Woodrow Wilson Tigers and the Fighting Irish from Camden Catholic. As the season progressed, only one of these teams has lived up to the predictions that many had expected. Camden Catholic (6-0) would be that team as the Irish won their sixth straight game by defeating Woodrow Wilson 10-0. |
Event Spotlight: Saturday, October 19, 2002 By Al Cohen The Philadelphia Phantoms lost their first game of the season tonight as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 decision at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza. Philadelphia had won its first two games of the 2002-03 season, including Friday's 5-4 triumph over the Penguins at the First Union Spectrum. The loss was just the fourth in 17 all-time matches in Wilkes-Barre and ended a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) vs. the Penguins. Neil Little, who shut out Rochester in his first start of the season a week ago, made 20 saves for Philadelphia. His counterpart Sebastien Caron stopped 28 shots to notch his AHL-leading third victory of the year. |

Event Spotlight: Friday, October 18, 2002 By Al Cohen Andre Savage tied team records for most assists in a game and period, and Mark Greig scored a pair of goals as the Philadelphia Phantoms posted a 5-4 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight at the First Union Spectrum. Savage registered three assists, Greig tallied both his goals and Guillaume Lefebvre contributed a goal and two assists during a first period that featured seven total goals. Savage later helped set up John Slaney's game-winning goal in the second period to match the Philadelphia record for most assists in a game (4), established several times. |

Fair, a 24-year-old midfielder, is a national team veteran, having become the second youngest player in US WNT history to appear in 100 career matches. She had five assists for the Charge this season, missing two games due to national team duty. |

Last night, New Egypt (9-4-0, 5-3-0) played host to the division leading Riverside Rams in a classic boy's soccer game. The Warriors were up to the challenge as they scored two goals in each half and prevent their opponents from clinching the division. It was a clear but somewhat windy day but with the way both teams can run the ball you would not have thought it would be a factor, and for the most part it wasn't. Both punters struggled and some of the passes would make duck hunters lining up their targets. |

Both teams knew they had to win or they would be eliminated in the first round. The first half of this game was very physical with each team trying to set the tempo looking for that elusive goal. West Deptford would get credit for the only goal recorded when the ball apparently crossed the line right as the goalkeeper picked up the ball. West Deptford (10-1-0) would move on to the second round of tournament. |

High School Ice Hockey: Monday, October 14, 2002 By Mike Costantino David Gooch had two goals and assisted on two others and John Probe added two goals and one assist as Clearview defeated Rancocas Valley 6-3 in SJHSIHL action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Gooch opened the scoring early in the first period, as Probe sent him in on a breakaway and Gooch's quick shot put Clearview up 1-0. Just over a minute later Nick Vaccarino put home a rebound following another odd-man-rush, and Clearview led 2-0. Clearview seemed to be a step quicker and their speed created numerous scoring chances. |
South Jersey Ice Hockey: Monday, October 14, 2002 By Mary Rose Faustman Friday the Boardwalk Bullies defeated the Roanoke Express, 4-3, in a shootout. Down 3-2 at the end of the second period, Bullies left wing Luke Curtin tied the game with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime period, Jade Galbraith defeated Express goalie Evan Lindsay on the first Bullies attempted penalty shot, securing the victory after Scott Stirling turned aside four Roanoke shots. Stirling finished the game with 23 saves. All three Roanoke goals came on the power play, while Stefan Rivard tallied the lone power-play goal in 12 opportunities for the Bullies. One hundred twelve penalty minutes were handed out, including three 10-minute misconducts. The Bullies are 2-0-0 in season openers since relocating to Atlantic City last year. |
