In Tier 2 action at Hollydell on Friday night, Triton's Sullivan scored a power play goal with just over a minute remaining to lift Triton to a 2-2 tie with West Deptford. Triton seemed to have the perfect formula... "Good Defense"! The Mustangs were led by senior defenseman Matt Biddle with strong goaltending by Steven Colbert and exceptional penalty killing.
Jason McWilliams scored the only goal of the first period giving Triton the lead. West Deptford's Eric Lokaj tied the score at 1-1 jamming home a rebound after Colbert had stopped a breakaway. Triton spent much of the second period killing penalties. Despite several opportunities from West Deptford, Colbert kept the game even.
Early in the third period with Triton on a power play, Doug DeHart used his speed to break into the zone. Just inside the left circle, DeHart slid the puck along the ice and into the long side. DeHart's short-handed goal gave West Deptford a 2-1 lead. It looked like that goal would stand up, especially after Triton squandered a golden opportunity to capitalize on a two-man advantage with three minutes remaining. However, Sullivan's heroics tied the game to earn a huge point for the Mustangs.
Triton displayed a good defense as they battled last years Tier 2 champs. This game may prove to be a springboard for better things to happen for the Mustangs.
