David Gooch had two goals and assisted on two others and John Probe added two goals and one assist as Clearview defeated Rancocas Valley 6-3 in SJHSIHL action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Gooch opened the scoring early in the first period, as Probe sent him in on a breakaway and Gooch's quick shot put Clearview up 1-0. Just over a minute later Nick Vaccarino put home a rebound following another odd-man-rush, and Clearview led 2-0. Clearview seemed to be a step quicker and their speed created numerous scoring chances.
Rancocas cut the lead to 2-1, scoring a power play goal when Jeff Sporer deflected a shot from the point. But Probe would score two goals in a span of two minutes, first tucking one home on the short side and then right off the face-off, his quick wrist shot found the back of the net and Clearview led 4-1 after the first period. Clearview would score the only goal of the second period on the power play. They actually had a two-man-advantage and for almost two minutes, and looked like they were going to kill it off, Bill Dunbar scored to put Clearview up 5-1 after two. Frank Luciano scored early in the third period to bring Rancocas to within 5-2, but Gooch responded as he scored a goal from a bad angle to put Clearview ahead 6-2. Kyle Aaronson scored late in the third but Rancocas could not muster any more offense.
