South Jersey Soccer: Sparks and Williams Ignite Berlin Township Hurricanes to Win Saturday, September 22, 2001 By Boog Williams The Berlin Township Hurricanes played the undefeated Riverside Rams in a U-10 girls soccer match. The Hurricanes came out flying. M. Sparks scored the first goal of the game. This was the first goal for the Hurricanes this year. She dribbled up the left side of the field and shot from just inside the 14-yard mark. The players and fans were finally able to celebrate. M. Williams scored the second goal of the game; she also dribbled up the left side and shot from almost the same spot as M. Sparks. Both goals were scored in the first 15 minutes of the first half. |
High School Football: Woodrow Wilson Have Their Way Against Overbrook Saturday, September 22, 2001 By Vincent Lewis The Woodrow Wilson Tigers traveled to Pine Hill in search of their second win of the season. The marching Tigers band entered the stadium along with their football team at Overbrook Senior High in step and ready to cheer for their team. After giving the home team a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter, the Tigers roared back to defeat the Overbrook Rams 41-15 in an Olympic Conference meeting. |

Both Pennsauken and Camden Catholic lost their season opener at home and were looking to capture that elusive victory. The Pennsauken Indians were hosting their second consecutive home game against the Irish of Camden Catholic in an Olympic Conference meeting. The visitors integrated a well balanced attack which saw Nick Cangelosi throw for three touchdowns, Marquis Beverly rush for two and the defense coming up big in an 46-21 victory. |

The Rams were hosting the Highland Tartans, also looking for win number one. Overbrook got the only goal they needed in the first half for the 6-1 win. Coach Lindenmuth's assessment was pretty evident to any one who attended the game. The Salem offense sputtered in the early stage of the game, and don't get me wrong they had reason to. The Pitman Panthers' defense came up big early. In the first series they made their presence felt. Pitman's linebacker Jim Foulke picked a Walter Carter fumble out of the air and strolled 32-yards for the first score of the game that was just 54 seconds old. |

LCA, located in Burlington County, was on its biggest winning streak ever at 30-0. They belong to the Penn Jersey League which consists of some small Christian and local tech schools from Pennsylvania. |
High School Field Hockey: Moorestown Shuts Out Northern Burlington Wednesday, September 19, 2001 By Crystal Parker The Lady Quakers of Moorestown were starting their field hockey season off with yet another win. Hosting the Lady Greyhounds of Northern Burlington, Moorestown's defense kept most of the action in their opponent's end of the field and scored the first goal early in the game. Persistence paid off as the Lady Quakers scored two goals in both halves of this game for a 4-0 shutout. |
