High School Softball: Thursday, May 31, 2007 By Joyce Sagerty The top two teams of the South Jersey Group 2 softball tournament were on a collision course when the battle for the sectional title began. The number one seeded Lady Hawks from Haddon Township were hosting a very familiar opponent in the Lady Knights from Sterling. During the regular season, the Hawks were able to defeat their Colonial Conference opponents twice and they were looking for the sweep. Sterling would use this opportunity to put enough runs on the scoreboard and finally defeat Haddon Township when it really counted. The Knights rally during the fifth inning gave them a lead and they never looked back. Sterling would defeat the Hawks by a 9-4 score and claimed a well deserved title. |
High School Softball: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 By Susan Hall You have to give a team credit for being able to score runs during the first time up at bat. Coaches and players do their best before a game starts to get themselves motivated for a game. When the Lady Cougars from Cherry Hill East visited the Lady Hawks from Haddon Township, their early two run lead would hold up for six and a half innings. Haddon Township would battle back to tie this game during the bottom of the seventh and then win it in the eighth inning. Bridget Settles would score the winning run on a passed ball and the Hawks would walk away with the 3-2 victory. |
High School Softball: Friday, April 20, 2007 By Susan Hall The Colonial Conference has always been one of the toughest conferences for teams to win due to the number of teams. Every one of those eleven teams on any given day has the chance to come away with the win. The Lady Lions from Lindenwold traveled to Haddon Township to take on the Hawks. Haddon Township had won six of their first seven games and would add on to their winning ways. The Lady Hawks would erupt for six runs in the second inning to take control of this game early. Starting pitcher Katie O'Riordan would earn the victory when Township posted and 11-1 victory over the Lions. |
High School Softball: Thursday, June 1, 2006 By Susan Hall The road to the group finals would have been a Cinderella story for either of these two teams. For Haddon Township and Overbrook, neither one of these teams were supposed to have advanced past the higher seeds to participate in the group finals, let alone win it. This year's run at the South Jersey Group 2 softball title proves that no matter what your regular season record may be, qualifying for the tournaments gives a team one chance at being the best. Haddon Township's late lead was erased by the Lady Rams to send this championship game into extra innings. It would take a two out hit by Brianne Moore during the bottom of the ninth inning to give Haddon Township the 3-2 victory and the group title. |
High School Softball: Tuesday, May 30, 2006 By Susan Hall It was on their wish list of items they wanted to accomplish but a game had to be played in order to receive their rewards. The Lady Hawks from Haddon Township knew that Schalick would not make it easy for them to advance to the South Jersey Group 2 finals. The Hawks would have to play their game and that would be to continue to hit the ball hard and the runs will come. Eight of their runs would come at the right time as Haddon Township posted a 9-6 victory over the Lady Cougars from Schalick. The Hawks will travel to the group finals against Overbrook. |
High School Softball: Tuesday, April 23, 2006 By Susan Hall The first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball tournament began with the eleventh seeded Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveling to Haddon Township to compete against the sixth seeded Lady Hawks. Both of these teams have experience advancing to the next round and were looking to continue with that success. Colleen O’Riordan was in complete control of her pitches as Haddon Township limited the Pirates’ scoring chances. A four run fourth inning was more than enough support for the Hawks’ starting pitcher and Haddon Township would be that team moving on to the next round. With their 6-0 victory, the Lady Hawks will now face a familiar opponent as they will travel to Audubon. |
High School Softball: Wednesday, April 12, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty Two teams having two different stretch of games met on the softball field at Haddonfield High School. It has been a rough beginning for the softball team from Haddon Township who were looking to end a string of tough losses. In their seventh consecutive Colonial Conference game, the Lady Hawks were looking to get back on the winning side of a game after starting the season with four straight victories. Haddonfield also have had some recently competitive games and their match up against the Hawks would be another game that both teams looked to have the advantage. Haddonfield's second inning success allowed them to take a lead and hold onto the 2-1 victory. |
High School Baseball: Sunday, April 9, 2006 By Stu Franklin April showers paid us a visit for most of the day on Saturday and the meteorologist suggests that the area is in much need for rain. Caught in the middle of the rain drops were the teams participating in the Rohrer Classic Baseball Tournament. Burlington Township, Haddon Township, Lower Cape May and Timber Creek were the teams participating in this year's tournament. The preliminary round started off with Burlington Township taking on Timber Creek at one location and at the same time at another location, Haddon Township hosted Lower Cape May. With Haddon Township and Timber Creek advancing to the finals of this tournament, it would be the Hawks from Haddon Township outlasting the Chargers to win it all. |

High School Basketball: Thursday, February 16, 2006 By Susan Hall When the first time Haddon Heights and Haddon Township met a month ago in a Colonial Conference girls' basketball game, the Lady Hawks got off to a very slow start and were unable to recover from that deficit. This time on their home court, Haddon Township jumped out to a two point lead at halftime over the conference leading Lady Garnets from Haddon Heights. The Garnets' defensive pressure took over during the second half to take control of this game. Haddon Heights would extend their winning streak to eight games with their 45-31 victory over the Hawks. |
High School Basketball: Tuesday, January 17, 2006 By Jason Brown Whenever teams has been going through a losing streak, the best remedy is to find out what needs to be fixed and get back on the court. When the Garnets from Haddon Heights traveled to Haddon Township, both teams were looking to find a way to come away with the win. The Colonial Conference has several teams that were capable of putting up double digit victories. This game would be a chance to come away with a conference win. Brandon Kersey had success find his range helping Haddon Heights break a halftime tie and built a lead that decided this game. The Garnets would post the 51-43 victory and pick up their first conference win. |
High School Basketball: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 By Susan Hall While many people were enjoying the holidays by extending their mini vacation through the New Years, area high schools were hard at work participating in one of the many basketball tournaments during the break. The Moorestown Invitational was one of those schools serving as a host allowing Holy Cross and Haddon Township to compete on the basketball court. The Lancers would start this game off slowly by only scoring eight first half points against Haddon Township. Christi Lurano would lead the Lancers second half rally and eventually send this game into two overtime periods. Holy Cross would outscore the Lady Hawks by four points in double overtime and defeat Township by a 49-45 margin. |
