Highland and Washington Township skated to a 5-5 tie in a JVA Division game played at Hollydell on Sunday night. While most kids were out trick or treating, these teams were hitting and scoring in a well played game. Led by Jim Mayfield's two goals and two assists, Highland seemed on their way to victory until Joby Passanante scored a short-handed goal. His second of the game, Passanante scored with ninety seconds left in the game to lift Township.

The new head coach of Edgewood, Coach Derryk Sellers, said that he wanted to bring back some of the tradition of Edgewood football, and he did. In early September, he went into the gym, looked up at the banners, and saw that in 1969 the football team was 9-0. He went to the Athletic Director, Mr. Frank Panhuise, and asked if the school could bring back the players from that 1969 team.

It was a very warm day, the sun was shining, and it was Homecoming for Edgewood High School. What a great day for Homecoming, and to honor the 9-0 Football Team from 1969. It should have been an easy day for Edgewood, but Bishop Eustace did their best to not let that happen.

The Paul VI Lady Eagle's came into this game with a very impressive 14-0-1 record. Cherry Hill East's 9-3-1, while not shabby certainly made them the underdogs. Brian Sheehan, the coach of the Eagles, expected a good game against a "quality" team. But he expected to win. The Eagles were playing without Jill McKeever (injury) and the Cougars were playing without Meredith Sobel. This game was a makeup game for a regular season game that was cancelled due to weather. The teams meet again on Friday (November 5). The teams played through 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes (2 - 10 minute) of overtime without scoring, but not without excitement.

On a beautiful fall day here at Cherokee High School, the Tartans of Highland and the Chiefs of Cherokee battled on the gridiron. In the end, it was Highland gaining a 17-10 victory. The win moved the Tartans record to 4-3. With the loss, Cherokee fell to 3-4 and watched whatever playoff hopes they had go down the tubes.

The meeting between the Pennsauken Indians visiting the Overbrook Rams was a very important game with the playoffs coming up soon. This game got little attention, but was a big game for both of these teams. Each team had something to gain in this Olympic Conference matchup. The Rams needed this game to stay alive for the playoffs. After an extremely close and defensive first half, one big play proved to be the key to Pennsauken defeating the Rams 14-6 to capture the Patriot Division championship.

Not many people know that Rutgers-Camden has a hockey team. I sure didn't, but they do, and they played LaSalle in an entertaining game on Saturday and lost 8-6 at the Coliseum. Both teams are in the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference and the school in part sponsors Rutgers-Camden. To be eligible for the team you must be taking at least four credits.

Six different players scored for Washington Township as they skated by Holy Cross 7-1 in a SJHSIHL game contested at Hollydell on Friday night. After spotting Holy Cross a 1-0 lead on a soft goal scored from about fifty feet in the first minute of the game, Township would dominate for the next forty-four minutes. The Minutemen would fire sixty-three shots on goal to just seven for the Lancers, and if not for the outstanding and courageous play of Holy Cross goaltender Brian Holland, the score would have been a lot worse.

Rudy Kolbach's eleventh seeded Delran Bears (11-4) were hoping to upset Viktor Dombrovsky's sixth seeded Cherry Hill East Cougars (9-3-1) in the Coaches Tournament, and for a while it looked as though they might. Cherry Hill started off fairly strong. Sixteen minutes into the game Rachael Sterling fed a near perfect pass to Amanda, the younger Kravitz, who beat Betsy Kennedy the Delran keeper to take a one to nothing lead. Delran then turned up the heat and the rest of the first half was fairly even. Cherry Hill led in shots 6-3 for the half.

Mike Becker scored two goals and Mike Cianfrani had a goal and an assist to lead Eastern over Lenape 5-2 in an SJHSIHL game played at the Trop on Monday night. The game marked the first meeting between the two teams since last year's final that was won by the Vikings in three games. Early on the story was the goaltending. Sean Sheehan for Lenape was strong all game as Eastern pumped twenty shots in the period and forty-seven for the game.
