High School Tennis: Sunday, September 26, 1999

This week proved to be very successful for the Edgewood Ladies Tennis Team. The first match on the books was Camden, which was an easy victory. Once Tuesday rolled around, we were ready to take on Palmyra, but once again the weather would not allow us to play the match. This is a big match for our coach, Mr. Mack, because his big brother is the coach of Palmyra and his niece plays number one singles.

Can you smell what the Cherokee Chiefs and Triton Mustangs were cookin'? Here in Evesham, the Chiefs and Mustangs went tooth and nail at one another in a slugfest that would have made the late greats Jersey Joe Walcott and Rocky Marciano proud. On a beautiful autumn afternoon, this made for football day treated the fans at a packed Cherokee stadium to one of the most exciting games of this young season. Triton edged Cherokee by the close score of 34-28.

The sound of football pads crunching against one another was a familiar one Saturday morning at Deptford High School. This defensive matchup between the Kingsway Dragons and the Fighting Spartans saw no touchdowns scored until the final quarter. With the combined score totaling five points through three quarters, Kingsway got the fourth quarter started with the only touchdown of the game and defeated Deptford 8-3 in a Tri-County Conference meeting.

Lemm recorded the shutout. AEF had great play by B. Miller and G. Gaynor. Once again AEF goalie R. Pinson kept them in the game.

On a full moon night at Eastern, the Pemberton Hornets played like the "Werewolves of London" for three and a half quarters before succumbing to the top ranked Eastern Vikings. The final score was 25-14 in favor of Eastern, but don't let the score fool you. For forty minutes in this game, the Hornets gave the Vikings all that they could handle plus some. Pemberton played the highly ranked Vikings as if they were powered by the energy of the full moon. Just like those crazies, who extract extraordinary powers come Luna time, the Hornets played like Lon Chaney Jr. possessed.
