By Gary Steiner In an Olympic Conference interdivisional game, Rancocas Valley came out ahead 10-6 versus Camden in a defensive contest that saw both offenses struggle. But it was the Red Devils, who scored with less than two minutes on the clock in the 4th quarter, who would take home the victory. This was not a pretty game, as both teams defeated themselves with mistakes and penalties. Neither team was able to put the ball in the end zone in the first half. Camden came close midway through the second quarter when Devon Goree intercepted a Rancocas Valley pass at the Camden 40-yard line and ran it back for a touchdown. But the score was negated by a clipping penalty. Finally, with 5:54 left in the half, Rancocas Valley's Scott Kennedy kicked a 28-yard field goal to put the Red Devils up 3-0. Kennedy later missed a 33-yard attempt just before the end of the half. The third quarter came and went without any change in the scoreboard. Finally, Camden completed a 53-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge by Patrick Thompson to put the Panthers up 6-0 with 11:19 left in the fourth quarter. A 2 point conversion attempt failed, keeping the margin at 3 points. With neither offense making much headway, and a great defensive performance by Camden's Roshawn Isreal, it looked as though Camden was going to pull this one off. But the Red Devil offense got it together for one final 55-yard drive, scoring on a quarterback sneak at the one by Sean Byrne with 1:16 left on the clock. Kennedy's PAT put the score at 10-6. The kickoff gave Camden the ball at the Rancocas Valley 40-yard line, but were stopped after four plays with an interception by Bryne. As quarterback, Byrne then ran out the clock to preserve the win for the Red Devils. Photos by Art Redd
