Buddy Anderson figured in on all the scoring and Derek Lucas was outstanding in goal, as Washington Township defeated Clearview 6-2 at Hollydell in game one of the SJHSIHL championship series. Game two will be Thursday night at Hollydell at 7:45. After watching Clearview neutralize Eastern's top line, Coach Harrington decided to utilize the speed of Defenseman of the Year Anderson and move him to forward and having him play on different lines keyed the offense, as Buddy had three goals and three assists.

They played three periods and two five-minute overtimes, but Delran and Washington Township were still deadlocked at 4-4. Then it came down to a shootout, which is where each team selects five players that go one-on-one with the goalie, and the team that scores the most goals is declared the winner. Delran was successful on two chances as Shamus Savage and Chris Mirabella converted, and Township failed to score. With the win Delran moves on to the SJHSIHL JVA finals to meet Sterling in a best of three series.

High School Girls Basketball: Friday, February 25, 2000
By Gregory "Graig" White
Back on February 10th, Woodrow Wilson and Camden High girl's basketball teams gave new meaning to "shooting the lights out". With 7:02 left in the game, Woodrow Wilson's gym went dark due to an area wide blackout with Wilson leading 53-41. Until that point the game was hard fought. The completion of the basketball game played today between the two teams was anti-climatic. Wilson won the game...

Mike Pontonio, like most coaches hates to lose, and one of the toughest things in sports is dealing with the reality that you just didn't have enough players to succeed. In Coach Pontonio's position, he hasn't had to deal with much failure, in the last four years he has won the championship at every level, including the last two titles at the varsity level. Not many teams in any sport win championships back-to-back, and with such success comes a desire for the team you're playing on that particular night to put a little extra effort because they are playing the defending champs. Every game is like a playoff game even against the lesser teams, everyone wants to beat the champion.

Clearview defeated Eastern 6-3 to sweep their semi-final series and will try and win their first SJHSIHL championship against Washington Township. The game plan for Clearview remained the same, smother Becker and Cianfrani as soon as they touched the puck and capitalize on their chances. Well, their best chance came on the power play with just over two minutes left in the first period. Patrick Sullivan was set up perfectly by John Meenan and Mike Gooch, and Clearview took a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Brandon Gould had two goals and two assists and Sean Zahacewski added a goal and three assists to lead Cherokee to a 6-0 win against Cherry Hill West in SJHSIHL JVB playoff action at the Coliseum on Monday night. Cherokee went on the power play almost immediately, and just twenty seconds into the game Gould scored on a feed from Zahacewski and that quickly it was 1-0. With West unable to generate much offense, Cherokee would score two goals in twenty-four seconds. Again it was Gould and Zahacewski doing the damage, first Gould set up Dan Redner to make it 2-0 and then Gould scored his second of the game from Zahacewski and Redner, and the period would end with Cherokee up 3-0.
