High School Ice Hockey: Sunday, January 16, 2000

Randy Einfalt had a goal and three assists, and Adam Roy a hat trick to lead the Eastern Vikings JV squad past Clearview 4-1 in a SJHSIHL game played Sunday night at Hollydell. With a young team, the Vikings struggled early but were playing solid defense led by Tom Fadako and Joe DiLauro. Coach Phillips has done a nice job bringing this team along.

High School Swimming: Sunday, January 16, 2000

The Kingsway girls swim team won the 3rd Annual Girlz Rule Invitational for the second year in a row. The Lady Dragons did it by finishing in the top three of all four 200 freestyle class relays, as well as strong individual performances by Bethany Turse and Kristen Best. The Tournament, hosted by Highland and Triton, with the support of the Rowan University Swimming & Diving Teams, also was joined by Camden Catholic, Delsea, Deptford, Eastern, Gateway, Glassboro, Haddon Township, Pitman, Sacred Heart, St. James, and Williamstown.

South Jersey Ice Hockey: Saturday, January 15, 2000

There is a midget "AA" Atlantic Youth Hockey League team who skates out of the Flyers SkateZone in Pennsauken Township and they are called Gladiator Legions. They went into first place in the Atlantic Youth district when they defeated the American Eagles 3 to 2. The Legions has played twelve league games to date and has a record of 6-2-4.

West Deptford scored five goals in the second period and breezed by Kingsway 8-2 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. The Eagles got contributions from all their lines with Steve Wade, Jason Boyer and Gary Guinto scoring two goals apiece. West Deptford scored the only goal of the first period in the opening two minutes, as Brad Clifford tallied with the assist to Doug Dehart.

Adam Seczech stopped all sixteen shots for his first shutout, as Washington Township defeated Lenape 5-0 at Hollydell on Friday evening. Joe Gori paced the offense, scoring a natural hat trick and adding an assist. Overall Township generated fifty-two shots on goal, but Sean Sheehan played his usual strong game to keep Lenape in the game. Gori scored the only goal in the first period, re-directing the puck after a great pass from along the boards by Steve Brown.

High School Boys Basketball: Tuesday, January 11, 2000

During their successful start this season, the boy's basketball team at Highland High School has been gaining new respect in the Olympic Conference. They put that success and their undefeated record on the line against the always-formidable Bishop Eustace Crusaders. In a very entertaining second half, the Crusaders' patience turned the game around and held off Highland's charge at the end. Bishop Eustace went away with the 63-59 victory.

Alex Vasserman scored with four minutes left in the game, as Cherry Hill West rallied to tie Cherokee at 2-2 in a penalty filled contest. Cherokee is the Tier 2 division leader, and was playing a West team that has struggled at times this year. But playing in front of their fans at the Coliseum, West played one of their best games of the season.

Brendan Ramsey was outstanding in goal, as Cherry Hill East defeated Collingswood 4-2 in a SJHSIHL game played at the Coliseum on Monday. After watching his team build a 4-0 lead and control much of the play for two periods, Ramsey stood strong in the third period as the Collingswood offense came to life in the final period.
