High School Ice Hockey: Friday, January 14, 2000
By Mike Costantino Adam Seczech stopped all sixteen shots for his first shutout, as Washington Township defeated Lenape 5-0 at Hollydell on Friday evening. Joe Gori paced the offense, scoring a natural hat trick and adding an assist. Overall Township generated fifty-two shots on goal, but Sean Sheehan played his usual strong game to keep Lenape in the game. Gori scored the only goal in the first period, re-directing the puck after a great pass from along the boards by Steve Brown. Gori scored with just over nine minutes remaining in the second period, converting a pass from Mike Mazzuca and it was 2-0. With Lenape on the power play, Chris Harrington sent Gori in and he scored the first of two short-handed goals for Township, and the period ended at 3-0. Not only does Gori score, but he also finishes his checks with authority and continues to lead by example. Buddy Anderson scored the second short-handed goal for Township midway through the final period, with Gori and Dan Fratantoro assisting and the lead was 4-0. Joe Pelle closed out the scoring in the final minute, and Township played solid defense to preserve the 5-0 shutout for Seczech. With the win, Township remains one point behind Clearview for the division lead, and these teams meet twice over the next two weeks to decide the top seed in the playoffs. Photos by Art Redd
