High School Ice Hockey: Monday, January 10, 2000
By Mike Costantino Brendan Ramsey was outstanding in goal, as Cherry Hill East defeated Collingswood 4-2 in a SJHSIHL game played at the Coliseum on Monday. After watching his team build a 4-0 lead and control much of the play for two periods, Ramsey stood strong in the third period as the Collingswood offense came to life in the final period. Kevin Descrochers gave East a 1-0 lead with just under six minutes left in the first period, putting home a rebound of a Mike Danyo shot. Early in the second period the lead grew to 2-0 when Andrew Harting scored on a feed from Brett Basara and Vince Galasso. Six minutes later Danyo made it 3-0 with Jared Wallace and Descrochers assisting. Collingswood was starting to generate some scoring chances, but Ramsey made several point blank saves on Adam Wiedman and Brett Smitley. With just under a minute remaining in the second period David Lowe sent in David Ash, and East led 4-0. With just thirty seconds left in the period, Collingswood finally solved Ramsey as Joe Pavlow scored with assists to Ken Cairns and Bret Smitley. Midway through the third period Kerth scored to cut the lead to 4-2, but Ramsey continued to frustrate Collingswood and would not surrender any more goals. With the victory, Cherry Hill East moves into second place. Photos by Boog Williams
