Volleyball Spotlight: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 By Bob Heller University of the Sciences in Philadelphia libero Claire Tauschek (Middleton High School/Verona, Wis.) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All Region Team for the Northeast Region as an Honorable Mention Selection as announced today by the AVCA. Tauschek, a two-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference First Team All-Conference selection was the only CACC volleyball player to be named to the AVCA All-Region Team. Claire was also the only libero named amongst the 18 honorees from the Northeast Region. |
College Volleyball: Tuesday, October 24, 2006 By Mike Ballard Freshman outside hitter Jen Mellon collected 11 kills, 12 assists, three service aces and seven digs to lead the DeSales University women’s volleyball team to a three-game sweep over Rutgers University-Camden in a non-conference match here Tuesday. DeSales won by scores of 30-17, 31-29 and 30-24. The Bulldogs improve to 10-19, snapping a three-match losing streak. Rutgers-Camden closes its season with a 6-17 record. DeSales also received 15 assists, two aces and five digs from junior Gia Zimmerman, while sophomore Rachel Koury notched 10 digs. Juniors Molly Motley and Allie Boyer collected seven and six kills, respectively. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Thursday, October 19, 2006 By Bob Heller Lindsey Wenderoth became just the second women's volleyball player in school history to record 1,000 career digs as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match, 3-0 to Goldey Beacom College last night in Wilmington, Delaware. USP lost the first game, 30-16, the second 30-19 and the third 30-26. The loss drops the devils' record to 8-14 overall and 5-8 in league play. Goldey Beacom improved to 12-11 overall and 11-4 in league play. |
College Volleyball: Saturday, October 14, 2006 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball team raised its record to 19-7 as it swept past Rutgers University-Camden and the College of Notre Dame in a tri-match here Saturday. The Scarlet Raiders swept Rutgers-Camden, 30-10, 30-28, 30-20, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match to improve to 5-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Newark completed its day by sweeping the College of Notre Dame, 30-18, 30-28, 30-6. In the third match of the day, the College of Notre Dame swept Rutgers-Camden, 30-28, 30-23, 30-19 to raise its record to 11-17. Rutgers-Camden, which has lost eight straight matches, dips to 5-13 overall and 1-6 in the NJAC. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Saturday, October 14, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate College women's volleyball matchup this afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The 3-0 win improves the Devils record to 8-13 overall and 5-7 in league play. Dominican falls to 4-18 overall and 4-10 in league play. USP won the games by scores of 30-26, 30-28, and 30-27. Offensively the Devils were paced by Lindsey Wenderoth's 15 kills. Andrea Cardine added 13 while Kirsten Lechner chipped in 10. Claire Tauschek paced the Devils defense with 26 digs, while Raeann Petruccelli, in her final home game as a Devil, came off the bench to record a career-high 19 digs. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia lost to Philadelphia University, 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball matchup tonight at the Bobby Morgan Arena. The Rams had an easy time in game one, defeating the Devils 30-18. USP made things a bit closer in games two and three but came up on the short end both times, 30-23 and 30-24. The loss drops the Devils to 7-12 overall and 4-6 in CACC games. The Rams of Philadelphia University improve to 16-2 overall and 9-1 in league play. The Devils were led by Lindsey Wenderoth and Megan Wolfe who recorded 10 kills apiece. Claire Tauschek paced the Devils defense, getting 18 digs. Wenderoth and Andrea Cardine each added 10 digs. Ladonna Landmesser and Kayleen Pisczcek split setting duties with 16 and 15 assists respectively. |
College Volleyball: Monday, October 2, 2006 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers-Camden volleyball team went 3-1 during the week and set a program single-season record for victories, with freshman Marci Polite playing a key role. The 6-0 middle hitter collected 50 kills, 19 blocks, 11 aces, 23 digs and four assists in the Lady Raptors' four matches. Included in her week was a 20-kill performance in a win at Bryn Athyn College of the New Church on Sept. 27. Rutgers-Camden made program history again during a 3-1 week which included the team’s first win ever in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match (a 3-2 victory at William Paterson Sept. 26) and another 3-2 win over Bryn Athyn College of the New Church (Sept. 27). The week ended with a tri-match split at Cabrini College (Sept. 30) which allowed the Raptors to set a single-season victory record and a mark for the team's longest winning streak. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Saturday, September 30, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball game this afternoon in Rutherford, New Jersey. USP took game one 30-14 and followed it up with a 30-28 win in game two and a 30-21 win in game three to take the match. The win improves the Devils record to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in league play. Felician falls to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in CACC games. Three USP players recorded ten or more kills with Michelle Hogga leading the way with 14. Hogga had just two errors in 22 swings for a .545 attack percentage. Lindsey Wenderoth added 11 kills while Kirsten Lechner chipped in 10. For the match the Devils held a 48-20 advantage in kills. |

More appropriately, the Goldey Beacom College Lightning women's volleyball team, as they put an end to USP's five match win streak with a 3-0 shutout at the Bobby Morgan Arena tonight. Goldey Beacom took game one, 30-25, came from behind to take game two 30-24 and finished off the three game sweep with a 30-21 win in game three. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Saturday, September 23, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's volleyball team recorded consecutive 3-0 wins over Molloy College and Caldwell College in a tri-match this afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena to even their record at 6-6 on the season. In earning their fifth straight win, USP also improves to 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Against Molloy, the Devils took game one 30-24; game two, 30-27 and game three 30-26. Kirsten Lechner (Fr., DePaul Catholic/ Wayne, N.J.) led the Devils with nine kills while Claire Tauschek (So., Middleton HS/Verona, Wis.) had 22 digs and four service aces. Tauschek's second ace of the match was the 100th of her career. She becomes just the fifth player in USP history to reach 100 career service aces. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia came back from an 11-point deficit in the final game of their match tonight against Holy Family University to defeat the Tigers 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at the Bobby Morgan Arena. The Devils trailed 21-10 in the fourth game and it looked as if the match was headed to a fifth and final game. However USP went on a 6-2 run to make the score 23-16. The Tigers added two more points to boost their lead back up to nine 25-16 before USP forced a sideout to regain serve trailing by eight 25-17. After a Tiger timeout Andrea Cardine served five straight points to pull the Devils within three 25-22 and force another Holy Family timeout. Momentum however was on the Devils side and Cardine served out the match with eight more points for a total of 13 straight service points to give the Devils a 30-25 win. |
College Volleyball: Saturday, September 16, 2006 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team climbed to .500 for the first time in program history as the Scarlet Raptors swept Immaculata University, 30-24, 30-20 and 30-18, in a non-conference match here Saturday. The victory leaves the Raptors with a 2-2 record, marking the first time since the program started in 2000 that Rutgers-Camden has reached .500. Coupled with their previous win over Valley Forge Christian Sept. 5, the Raptors also tied their program-record winning streak at two. The only other time that was accomplished in program history was Oct. 20 and 22, 2005. |
High School Volleyball: Saturday, September 9, 2006 By John Daglian The 12th annual Viking invitational Girls Volleyball tournament was held at Eastern High School on Saturday September 9th. This tournament normally features several of the top Group 4 schools in the state. This year the participating schools were Eastern, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Memorial, East Brunswick, Wayne Hills, Hackensack, West Windsor South and Clifton. The two pools were divided as follows: Pool #1 consisted of Eastern, Wayne Hills, Memorial and Cherry Hill West. and West Windsor South. Pool #2 contained Cherry Hill East, East Brunswick, West Windsor South, Hackensack and Clifton. |

Heller was the Women’s Division II Northeast Regional recipient of the Burger Award, presented for excellence in publicizing the sport of college volleyball. |
Volleyball Spotlight: Thursday, November 10, 2005 By Bob Heller The University of Sciences in Philadelphia has swept the major awards in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball All-Conference balloting, which was released today. Senior outside hitter Emily Roth has been named CACC Player of the Year and freshman libero Claire Tauschek won a very close race for the Rookie of the Year award. Furthermore, USP head coach Michael Sinesi has been named Coach of the Year. The voting was conducted by the conference's 12 head coaches. |
College Volleyball: Monday, October 24, 2005 By Mike Ballard Junior setter Karla Maisto had a record-setting day in leading the Rutgers-Camden volleyball team to its first victory of the season Oct. 20 at Immaculata University. In the decisive fifth game of the match, she served all 15 points as the Lady Raptors won the match, 30-26, 30-20, 22-30, 18-30, 15-0. She set single-match school records with 35 service points and 19 aces, while adding 37 assists, the third-highest total in program history. She already holds the record with 43. Her 19 aces set a Division III NCAA record for a five-game match. Maisto, who entered the week first in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and 16th in the country in aces per game at 1.08, totaled 26 aces for the week in matches against Immaculata, Rutgers-Newark and Bryn Athyn, raising her average to 1.30 per game. |
